Rumored UFC 278 reportedly sold 360k PPV buys worldwide.

UFC & ESPN keeps these PPV numbers very close to the chest, doubt these are the legit numbers. Some trash source always makes the first claim and the rest of the MMA community just runs with it without any care to fact check it.

The first fight with Masvidal that sold 1.4M was quite literally because it was the ONLY live sport in the WHOLE world that weekend. And the rematch selling 700K was because the big North American leagues still weren’t back. Usman wasn’t and could never be a draw. He’s like Ngannou. Those guys are simply not star material.

360K worldwide?? I hate to tell you guys, but that is a really shitty number. The supposed number 1 p4p fighter in the world. Fighting a British guy for the WW title. That is a garbage number. The UFC gets their 500K guarantee from ESPN. So they probably don’t care. But, I doubt that ESPN is happy when that happens. Though it seems they put the prelims on ABC. I’d like to know those numbers. To see if people that don’t normally watch the UFC, but might have seen those because it was on one of the big 3 US networks.

At the end of the day though. I just don’t care about tv ratings, or ppv sales. If you offer a sub standard product month after month. There comes a point where people just stop buying.

The ppv model is just out to lunch these days. Anybody with an ounce of saavy can watch literally anything on TV or in movie theaters for free. All on big screen, and hi-def, with much cheaper beer, and food. Just relax on the couch and watch.

I bet that Borz/Nate fight bombs as well.

Usman isn't a superstar draw. Colby and Jorge are bigger names with more charisma than him. Pretty obvious they were the main reason their PPVs did well.

Also it seemed all leadup people had more interest in Rockhold Costa than the main event from Countdown views, presser views, viral moments, interviews etc.

Agreed -- for Edwards being in the main, those numbers are about what you'd expect. I'm hopikng this boosts Edwards popularity, but I don't think the rematch will surpass these numbers by much if at all unless it has some good co-mains to accompany it.

Rematch will sell tons more. You would think after Colby 2x and Masvidal 2x and being such a dominant champ Usman would have higher numbers, goes to show how unknown Leon really was.

Yep. Can’t believe these pack of folks is still so gullible and continue buying into these baseless sources.

I always laugh at this "worldwide".
PPV is only in US.

in most of other countries, a sports channel purchased the rights to transmit, and they do so (most via subscription, like Combate in Brazil, BT in UK, etc).
The only country that the UFC works with PPV for one event AFAIK is the USA.

Didn’t even realise it was a PPV. Co-main and main event was great but other than that a pretty poor PPV. Not really interested in Aldo now that he’s just old, not surprised the PPV didn’t do particularly well.

Man i am doubting these reports on ppv and fighter pay since i saw last week what they report on Costas pay and the guy saying he got 35k to fight Vettori

That did a lot better than I thought it would. Still not a great number but very solid if true

Where's those 277 numbers we all want to know!

The fact that these numbers are high by today's standards shows the precarity of the ppv model at present. The UFC doesn't have superstars.

No, 350k is not a great number. There's a reason they have kept inflating costs.
