UFC 220 PPV buys are out

Interesting.

I thought this card would do 500k.

Cyborg vs Holm did 350k.

Funny how WMMA can draw as much as a HW and LHW title fight on the same card.

But in all honesty, I am surprised by these numbers. 350K is a profitable card for the UFC but its def disappointing considering it had 2 title fights on it from the 2 heaviest weight classes.

UFC is lacking real star power right now. All the big name fighters are older and may not be around much longer like Bisping, GSP, A. Silva, Cormier, Belfort, Hunt, Overeem, ect. Stars like Velasquez, Jones, McGregor, Rousey, Diaz bros., aren't fighting anymore for various reasons. The greedy UFC puts on way to many shows with very little star power, but every sport goes through down times, and UFC will shine again.

One more WMMA division please !
You say that in a condescending manner but it's ironic that Cyborg vs Holm did 350k PPVs.
Must feel bad when WMMA does just as well as the 2 heaviest male weight classes title fights on the same card.

PRIDE was producing stars, UFC is buying them.

The card would have sold more if there was some animosity or controversy in the build up to get the casuals invested in the result. If you don't give the casuals a reason to care who wins they won't buy the fight.

Estimates for the UFC 220 buyrate are in.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has revealed that the event looks to have brought in around 350,000 pay-per-view buys. UFC 220 featured two title bouts. In the main event, Stipe Miocic successfully defended his heavyweight gold against Francis Ngannou. Daniel Cormier finished Volkan Oezdemir in the second round to retain his light heavyweight title.

Miocic and Cormier are set to clash in the main event of UFC 226 on July 7 for Miocic’s title.

Maybe that’s why they won’t strip Conor... he seems to sell a lot more than this...

The UFC built there brand on full cards that had more then 1-2 fights on it people wanted to watch.

that is the biggest difference with boxing cards.

MMA fans are more knowledgeable, yet seems since WME bought the UFC they have diluted the cards, now seems like 1/2 the fights on the card are gimme showcase fights.

just look at the shevchecko fight. a lifelong martial artist who has competed in various arts at the highest level for what? over 10 years at least against someone who was a crack addict just a few years ago. It should never have been offered let alone signed that bout.

and that was on the maincard FFS.

and im one of those guys who watches every fight on the card, and ive noticed a huge difference in the quality of cards. and not only that but there is to many PPV's. People just cant be expected to budget in $130 a month for 2 PPV's every fukn month.

Disgusted that being a MMA fan costs so much to watch compared to other major sports.

Sold 350,000 at 65 a pop. Plus more for bars that bought it. Made 2.5 mill on the gate. I am sure the UFC is thrilled.

How much did Bellator being on the same night affect PPV buys?

PPV model is dying, plus ufc putting on low caliber cards is only magnifying it.

The last great HW draw was JDS.
UFC 131 Jds vs Carwin 330K buys. Pretty good considering it was a 3 round HW fight
UFC 146 JDS vs Mir 565K buys
UFC 155 JDS vs Cain 2 590K buys

Damn. PPVs are bombing for the UFC. 350,000 is probably an expected number for this card in 2018. Which is terrible.
How is 350k a bad number?

Pacquaio got under 300k against vargas.

Golovkin only did 170k against Jacobs, and that was one of the best boxing matches of 2017.

350k is a great number without a superstar.

I think we’re seeimg a significant decline in numbers in championship fights from a few years ago though, aren’t we? I feel this could have been 500-550k 40-50 ppvs ago
