U.S. report on Russian hacking released.

Is an arms race not more of a cold war move than some economic sanctions against Putin? And economic sanctions is pretty much the maximum punishment I've seen anyone on the left argue for against Putin.

Both Obama and Hillary support/ed building more bases in eastern europe and expanding NATO. That's the real problem.
These hacks would be used to add fuel to the fire for the masses(see, we need more NATO to combat the hackers)

I mean, if I was the leader of the USA I'd be plotting the destruction of Russia too. And China. So it depends on your point of view if it's good or bad. It's just that usually that is a right wing position.

Russia and China are huge threats to the USA.

I can't wait for Trump to get in office and have to depend on CIA FBI etc intelligence for something.

The issue is Russian aggression and the expansion of their sphere of influence. We need Trump to handle this appropriately. It's fine that he takes his cues from his background as a business man to negotiate with Putin. But we must also be resolute while avoiding wreckless behavior. Trump must put his personal feelings aside and be vigilant. If he can't do this, then he has no place in office.

@HereticBD your view that this is some kind of liberal temper tantrum is inaccurate. The election is over. Additionally, A few weeks ago you were hedging on "concrete evidence," now you say it doesn't matter. Quite frankly, your pouting has grown old. At some point the Trump crowd must quit crying and stamping their feet.

Trump is president. Get over it.

Look who didn't realize sanctions were used against the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Sweet dreams pumpkin.

Is this not an attempt at influencing an election?

In a far more persuasive way to the American public, than Russian hackers could do?

Man I really wish those Russians hadn't protected our democracy.

You disagree with me = you support Trump.
Forget Trump then. Who's word would you take? Assange? It's not like it's just Obama saying this it's RNC members too and FBI CIA all the intelligence agencies and independent cyber security firms etc I understand being sceptical at times but you can't distrust everything your government says forever and always.

It's an interesting wrinkle in presidential politics, but any candidate who is defeated by the Russians before taking office has no business being president. In 4 years, beat back the hackers and take control of the situation, getting caught off guard is no excuse for anyone asking for such an important job.

I'm arguing in terms of degree. Not that one was used and one wasn't. An arms race is clearly more hostile than a round of economic sanctions.

In a close race, any last minute scandal can be enough to swing the election. It doesn't even have to be a legit scandal, it just has to have bad optics and stay front and center of the 24 hour news cycle for a couple of weeks.

Been over this in the other thread.

Is that a list of foreign governments? Did they do anything illegal by endorsing a candidate?

The difference being, the Houston Chronicle didn't break into your PC and change your desktop background to their endorsement and then steal all your dick pics.

They published an opinion piece in a local newspaper that they owned.

This isn't any more conclusive than what they've been saying for the last month. Now it's just on a sheet of paper. Look -- at this point, I don't doubt that Russia was up to something, but I really don't care for two main reasons.

1. The US has interfered with a lot of "democratic" elections in the past. We don't have the moral high ground.
2. Hillary, her staff and the DNC were doing things that were at best very questionable and at worst serious crimes. If they had played by the rules, nobody would even be talking about the emails.

Tough shit.

Report also said Russia used online trolls. No wonder so many War Roomers have a crush on Putin

That was pointed out during the campaign but no one seemed to notice.

In the debate when Trump was snorting the whole time and it was pretty clear he lost to everyone there was a #TrumpWon trend anyway originating from St. Petersburg..
