Economy U.S. Inflation Accelerated in June - Trump Tariffs Pushing Up Prices?

Yeah anyone with an ounce of critical thinking saw this coming. He has done nothing to lower prices like he ran on. I'll never understand how so many people can/will believe the bullshit he spouts.

Maybe he hasn't lowered prices, but he's certainly ended the wars and released the Epstein files, so it's not all bad.

Cool so we are bragging about the money the government is making off tariffs? How does that help my cost of groceries and general cost of living go back down? Shit isn't cheaper and inflation is slowly rising again.
Yes, it's the public budget, you clown. If they don't make it on tariffs, they either tax you(well not actually you since the lefties on here don't even pay taxes), or they print the money which again causes higher inflation.

You can't reverse Biden's inflation, you can only slow the rate. Disinflation is positive and is what we've had, the deflation that you want is a negative and means high unemployment, decreased wages, less spending.

Yeah and he's grasping at straws to get Powell booted from office so he can put one of his lackeys in charge Of the Fed.
I fear this would prove to be the most disastrous thing for the American economy since the Great Depression. It's chilling to think of the potential for harm with this.

Tariff's are a tax on us, we pay the price in the end. We don't get the money back, the government isn't cutting me a check at the end of the year from their surplus of tariff money. They are unnecessary as well.

The inflation was a result of Covid and the money printing at the end of Trump's term, which I don't even blame Trump for because it was what needed to be done due to covid. At least during Biden's term it started to come down and trended down up until the last few months.

Hell get his yes man in there to strong arm the Fed into lowing rates in spite of rising inflation. The dollar will be worthless by the end of his term. Dude doesn't fucking care if inflation hits double digits again.
- Lula tried the same with the central bank president. Is a classic ditactor move to remove the independency of the central bank. Thjats way as you pointed the retard in chage can do any stupid move that croses his handlers mind.

Well, let's see how this plays out.

The Consumer Price Index rose 2.7 percent from a year earlier, as the global trade war started to bite.

Inflation accelerated in June as President Trump’s tariffs started to leave a bigger imprint on the economy, keeping the Federal Reserve on track to hold interest rates steady when policymakers next meet this month. The Consumer Price Index rose 2.7 percent from a year earlier, the swiftest pace since February, data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed on Tuesday. That is slightly higher than expected and up from an annual pace of 2.4 percent in May.

“Core” inflation, which strips out volatile food and energy prices and is seen as a reliable gauge for underlying price pressures, also shifted higher. Those prices were up 2.9 percent from the same time last year. Over the course of the month, prices rose 0.3 percent, a notable pickup from a 0.1 percent increase in May. Core prices rose 0.2 percent.

The June data still reflects only the initial impact of Mr. Trump’s global trade war. Prices of products most exposed to tariffs, like household furnishings, jumped 1 percent, significantly higher than the 0.3 rise last month. Prices for appliances, specifically, rose 1.9 percent, up from 0.8 percent. The apparel index increased 0.4 percent, snapping multiple months of declining prices. Gasoline prices rose 1 percent in June, after falling 2.6 percent the previous month. Grocery prices also rose, ticking up 0.3 percent in June.

Economists expect price pressures to intensify over the coming months, especially if new tariffs the president has threatened against the European Union and a host of other countries in recent days are imposed on Aug. 1 as planned.

MSNBC just reported that it didn't; plus it looks like its down .3% from last year. I'm confused now.

Probably deserves its own thread.

Donald Trump has made no effort to hide his growing contempt for Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, but as NBC News reported, the president made a new comment about his target that raised eyebrows:

Trump said he was ‘surprised’ that Powell had been nominated to be chair of the Federal Reserve. ‘I was surprised he was appointed,’ Trump said. ‘I was surprised, frankly, that Biden put him in and extended him.’

The Republican did not appear to be kidding.

If your new position is that the government just wastes money and them getting more doesn't help anybody, then I have good news for you, taxes are now lower in addition to inflation being lower and higher personal incomes.

It's transitional.

What specific policy's did Biden enact which caused the inflation?

I'm strongly against the trade war and think it'll eventually be a disaster but to be fair I think we're still in the "wait and see" stage of things. Not going to worry too much about a tick up or down yet.
