Twitch Streamer Reckful Dead at Age 31

Im not surprised. Part of me is happy he did.

I started watching him in 2011/2012 during the Cata expansion for WoW. Guy was literally boosting accounts on stream while acting like he was some PvP god when playing every imbalanced class spec. His stream got repetitive and annoying quite fast. When he got banned by Blizzard he became the typical IRL trash streamer who intentionally created drama for views.

Damn that sucks. I wonder if he was off his meds because proposing when you haven't seen your ex in 6 months in a text is very compulsive imo. Mental illness is no joke. He was a hell of a player. Watched his vids a ton to pick up tips for rogue. RIP

He was the best rogue in the world, so yeah, he was a PvP God. Everyone was able to play that "imbalanced class", and yet he owned inferior sniveling trolls whose own streams probably languished in obscurity because they were unable to achieve the same success with access to the exact same characters as he did, but who couldn't accept their inferiority, or the larger lack of appeal of their streams, and blamed their own inadequacies on the game, or the perceived impurity of a superior gamer like Reckful.

You sound like an aspie beta autist.

So because he was an annoying streamer, part of you is happy that he committed suicide?

Ive been watching Twitch from the beginning. Reckful personality was nearly on par with streamers like Ice Poseidon and Sodapoppin of that time. Socially being the worst human beings possible for money. Its like asking me to show remorse for Jake Paul or Greedgodx if they off'd themselves.

Showing sympathy is one thing, refraining from being overly bothered by somebody's Twitch channel is another.

It's ridiculous because there was never any need for you to watch him if you weren't interested. I wasn't even aware of the guy, and I played WoW through Burning Crusade. You just sound like any other asshole bitching about someone else's success even though that success wasn't detrimental to you, and now that something terrible has happened to him you feel better because somebody you didn't respect is no longer better off than you are. It's childish and shitty.

How so? What would he do?

Autist huh? I have autism myself and I absolutely disgusted with his comment so I am not sure I see the link between that and just being an enormous piece of shit. But okay.

As for Reckful, never heard of him but watched some of his content and it made me very sad. He seemed like a good person. It's sad that he could not be helped with his problems. Hope he finally found his peace.

Here is an article that details some of the abuse Reckful received from chat over the years. Pretty fucked up.

After scraping the 34 million chats from Reckful’s VODs, I did a simple text search to try to identify messages from users that were encouraging Byron to kill himself . This process was not perfect, and certainly identified some false positives (Spam that was not directed at Byron, people talking about their own experiences with suicide, etc). But the result is roughly 5,000 individual messages — They range from simple “KYS” spam, to things that are so personal and hateful it made me squirm just to read them. Keep in mind, that all of these messages were sent after Byron, in response to a flood of hateful “KYS” messages in 2016, begged his viewers to stop the abuse. I’ll quote his words directly, but you should watch the video if you haven’t seen it.

“So you shouldn’t tell me that stuff, right?…I just want you to know that I’m serious. I want you to know that I’m really affected. So, look at me…Maybe you guys would stop”

Its 4chan autism brether, not real autism. Apologies if you were offended.

I listen to an Aussie named pandatv. Super nice guy, very funny. After reckful died he was talking and said he gets told to kill himself and just horrible things on a daily basis. Not just from chat, but like discord and emails and stuff.

I didn't realize how toxic the twitch community really was.

It's really bad, yet somehow better than it was when Reckful was at his peak.

It really was a wild west on twitch in 2011-2012 era.

Chat is way more moderated now, but it's still not healthy especially for people that are already vulnerable.

Keep in mind, the study this guy did on Reckful's chats only went back to 2016, Reckful streamed for years before that and chats were way worse in that period.

Didn't really follow him or anything but I watched this recently about his life and controversies. Was a good watch

Never heard of this guy but I watched a bit of that and yeah, this guy had some issues.

RIP.

Covid was actually a major contributing factor here.

One of the ways he kept his depression under control was by traveling and going out with friends. He couldn't travel or go out.

He even rented a second apartment in his building during this so some of his friends could quarantine with him.

People piss me the fuck off. You may disagree but why would you call him a beta on your social media account for the world to see? Have fucking respect for the man that just passed away.
That permanent solution to a temporary problem shit always let's you know they're clueless. Depression and mental instability aren't temporary problems, they're chronic problems. You might whether the storm a thousand times and still lose and die. And then people that don't understand think you just gave up at the first sign of adversity.

People don't give up, they break down.

Depends on the situation, really. For a lot of people their depression/mental instability is just an extension of drug abuse, and the resulting imbalances. Once they get in control of their addictions, their situation improves enormously.

For the people who are naturally inclined to be depressive/unstable, the problem is always going to manifest itself in some ways. It's more of a matter of how you're capable of channeling it. If you surround yourself with a toxic environment and adopt a toxic mentality, as many gamers/internet personalities unfortunately do, then the chances are that the problem is only going to get worse and worse.

The internet pre-2010s was sort of a "Darwinian environment" in many ways (and has remained such in some unaffected environments). Great for the people who thrive under those sort of circumstances, horrible for the people that don't. Certainly the last place you want to be a part of, if you have suicidal tendencies. You didn't have to be a Twitch streamer to get told off to kill yourself, or threatened to be killed, you only had to post on a forum such as this, or play a video game with the chat enabled.

I know nothing about this guy, but when you put yourself out there in the public eye, it's inevitable that you're going to deal with relentlessly cruel trolls. It's not just Twitch. It's everywhere.

If you are legitimately mentally ill, becoming an internet personality is not advisable. It sucks, but there's nothing anyone can do about it. It is what it is, and you better be prepared to deal with it if you put yourself out there on the stage.

He wasnt someone playing a character. Community of followers he created and endorsed led to this outcome. But instead people will only focus on the community.

Blizzard immortalizes late World of Warcraft player Reckful in-game

In a recent update, Blizzard added a non-playable character (NPC) to World of Warcraft’s Shadowlands expansion. The NPC, a Rogue Trainer named Reckful, now stands permanently in the Cathedral of Light, the spot where players gathered following his death. World of Warcraft players can interact with the Reckful NPC, which has a line of dialogue that’s a nod to Bernstein’s World of Warcraft career. “I don’t train Assassination Rogues,” the NPC says — a reference to Bernstein’s skill in Wrath of the Lich King, according to World of Warcraft website Wowhead.
