I've read it takes twenty years for a new nuclear plant to come online , from initial planning to turning on the switch ( I'm sure red tape plays a large part in this but your not getting away from that with nuclear as I'm sure you're aware ) , the growth of renewables over only the last five years is staggering and it's only going to better and cheaper

Australia is a great example of how quickly this can happen, they are to 43% from renewables compared to only 32 three years ago

From what I have been hearing lately, small modular reactors are going to be 20 years away for about the next 30 years.

Solar continues to get cheaper all the time compared with all other forms of energy. Texas has invested heavily in wind and solar and proved they're the way to go. Texas, of all places, leads the US in renewable energy production. But now, Trump has completely fucked them over.
