Trying to quit nicotine

just stop

it sucks balls for like 2 weeks and then ya feel better

I find if you taper or substitute you just give yourself an excuse and keep going

Your a long time user coming off the most addictive thing in the universe ... theres no way it isnt going to be terrible. For me accepting that truth helps a lot . If you got vacation time take a few days and just lock yourself away from everyone and let the worst of it pass

You can do it and yes its hard

Ill be lucky to make it to 40 even if I completely quit yesterday. I'd like to squeeze out a few more years.

I turn 38 tomorrow and probably have more nicotine abuse on the old carcass than you.

Im currently trying for a half marathon after years of struggling to do a mile and a half (ran 11.85 miles last sun...after drinking the night before)

I do all this as well a Judo 2-3 times a week with a military life.

You can do this.

Just this week I saw mutlitple people with various neuro vascular issues (internal carotid blocked, strokes etc)
The doctor told the patients over and over the best thing you can do is quit smoking.

Smoking for 20+ years will take its toll. Yes some people are the exception but for most
Strokes, heart attacks, peripheral artery disease will find you eventually.

This is spot on. It sucks but just hang on, it will pass.

Also changing to gum or patches only changes you source of nicotine. It will not help with nicotine withdrawal which can only be done with zero nicotine in your blood.

I’m also attempting to quit nicotine. I’ve quit smoking twice, but neither time lasted more than a few months. Recently, I had switched to a vape pen and I’m working on tapering off of that. I have about two days before I’ve exhausted my supply.

I’ve found that quitting the vape pen is more difficult than quitting cigarettes though. With cigarettes, you have breaks from nicotine. With this vape pen, I take a drag whenever I feel like it. Which turns out to be every few minutes, really. And I have constant actions associated with taking a drag.

Take a piss/vape, get out of a chair/vape, walk to the fridge/vape, look at my dog/vape, pornhub/vape, sherdog/vape, start the car/vape...you get the idea.

It’s been a struggle, but I’m committed and remind myself that there is no easy path. Good luck to you. This is a brutal test of self restraint and discipline, but you got it! {<Mcgoat}

well, snus is actually different from normal loose tobacco/dip. snus has never been proven to cause any form of oral cancer or even gum recession. its completely different from dip.

https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ijc.23469

"Scandinavian moist snuff (snus) is claimed to be a safer alternative to smoking. We aimed to quantify cancer incidence among male snus users and to shed light on the net health outcome by studying their overall mortality. A cohort, comprised of 9,976 men who participated in a population‐based survey, was compiled in 1973–74. Follow‐up until January 31, 2002, was accomplished through record‐linkages with nation‐wide and essentially complete registers of demographics, cancer and causes of deaths. Adjusted relative risks among exposed relative to unexposed men were estimated using Cox proportional hazards regression. The cohort members contributed more than 220,000 person‐years at risk for cancer. A statistically significant increase in the incidence of the combined category of oral and pharyngeal cancer among daily users of snus (incidence rate ratio 3.1, 95% confidence interval 1.5–6.6) was found. Overall mortality was also slightly increased (hazard ratio 1.10, 95% confidence interval 1.01–1.21). Although the combined previous literature on snus and oral cancer weigh toward no association, this population‐based prospective study provided suggestive evidence of snus‐related risks that cannot be lightly ignored. © 2008 Wiley‐Liss, Inc."

Replace cigs with food.

I have preached this to everyone who says they want to quit.

It is how I did it after I smoked a 30 gram of tabacco in one night. I was a ridiculous smoker, known as a guy who always had smokes.

I used to smoke and dip both. Dip was harder to quit. I switched to an e-cigarette, and slowly whined myself off of it. I don’t have an answer for caffeine though; why do you need to quit that?

Hard physical labor all day to the point where you crash on the spot when finished will minimize both intake and cravings. You can choose just about anything but make sure your output is the maximum intensity that you can sustain for 12-14 hours.

You can do this.

Best advice. Smoked for about 6 years, quit for 10 (by joining a sport), and went back to smoking in full force furiously for the last year and came to these realizations after I was wheezing/hacking up tar and having shortness of breath. The fact is, people who use regularly don't care about their bodies or themselves (at least at that point in time). Which is how they would ever allow themselves to fuck their bodies up so horrendously. The fact is, when you're healthy your body will literally reject stuff like smoke, nicotine, and vapor.

So the answer is get healthy. Go run or bike as hard as you can everyday and your body will take of the rest. It's amazingly resilient. I thought I had done permanent damage to my lungs and cardiovascular system yet in time I was able to keep up with my more fit buddies. If I'd take a puff of anything i'd start hacking as if it was my first time smoking (meaning your body has begun to repair itself). Same shit applies to a diet. When I got really healthy, a can of soda would taste disgusting to me, when before I was drinking 2-3 in a sitting.

But that's why it's so difficult to be able to quit and stay off it. You literally have to change your lifestyle. It's the easiest answer yet the most difficult to do. It's the answer people don't want to hear. Everyone wants the shortcut, supplement, or a band-aid. If that sounds like too monumental a task, just go the easy route and get on those pharms that make you quit (Chantix?) or patches, vapes, gums, whatever else. It's worked for people I've known and helped me taper off cigarettes for period of time so i'm not dismissing it. But stuff like this is usually a cry for help, and the real answer then lies in caring about yourself and your body.

I dipped for 25 years. If I was awake and not eating, I was dipping. When I was dating my wife she hassled me about it; I told her I needed a reason to quit. I said if we ever had a kid, I’d quit. Figured I was safe, especially as we got well into our 40’s...at the age of 45 we became parents. August 15, 2016 I had my last chew, our son was born the next day. I have this unfortunate habit of keeping my promises.

It sucks, I would have rather given up sex.

Look man, I’ve quit cold turkey and used Chantix but i always go back so I’m sorry, it’s not easy

I started smoking when I was 18... at first, it was just when I drank... my friend Brittany would always lend me a cigarette/pressure me to smoke, then it progressed regularly until it became a habit

I've tried the patches before, they worked for awhile until my pharmacy messed up and gave me too low of a dose too quick, so it ended up not working.... I've tried the gum but it really didn't help me that much, when I tried Chantex it made me feel weird as hell

My friend Keegan has a badass Smok vape... I may go get one of those and see if it helps get me off of cigarettes

IQOS just got approved for the US. it's way better for you than regular cigarettes. It may also be priced lower as well.

I quit once cold turkey and the last time with vaping, just slowly decrease the nicotine to zero
Can really recommend the vaping,as I barely do it today and quitting was so easy lol

Does your employer or insurance company offer a tobacco cessation program? A lot of company's do, and you can try out all different methods to quit. Find what works.

In my opinion nicotine gum is highly underutilized!! I quit very easily utilizing it!

People vape, which is one addiction to another. Bogus!!
Vape is a way a lot of people I know did it.

They still vape but are down to 0 nic juice now.

I quit cigs by smoking small bowl hits of weed. I hate cigs and haven't smoked one in at least 5 years. Horrible habit.

The way I quit was I stopped buying cigs all together. I would bum cigs off co workers and put them out after a few hits. Whenever I had the urge to smoke I would relight that cig so it taste nasty and I would continue doing this for about 2 weeks before I finally didn't want a cig at all.

From there I would take small bowl hits through out the day if I was ever stressed or wanted to smoke a cig.

It's incredibly difficult to mentally quit but once you get past the first month and you minimize your stress while staying away from smokers, you'll be free from nicotine in no time.
