He avoided war because, presumably, he didn't want to fight for his country.

Posing for a photo was, I suppose, pretty cool and dangerous (and ill-advised), but it's not exactly the same as doing your duty and laying down your life for your country.

Avoiding the draft is a cowards way regardless of belief or excuse to avoid. Bonespurs just made it transparently worse for me.
