This comment went mostly ignored but it was the first question I thought of when I saw this title. We have bases all over the world in places we don’t own. Not sure why we need to own it

Trump being Trump US used to have bases on Greenland.

"Nasa scientists have rediscovered Camp Century, a former secret US Cold War base buried under 30 meters of ice in northwest Greenland. This is reported by Sky News.

Camp Century was built in 1959 with the purpose of launching ballistic missiles against the then Soviet Union. But the base was abandoned and nature had to take over.

When scientists flew over Greenland in April this year and mapped the ice sheet using radar technology, the base suddenly appeared. Several media are now publishing the images from the military base buried under ice.
