International Trump/Putin Summit

You can accuse Putin of many things, but being stupid isn't one of them. Of course, Trump makes it easy for him. But Putin is a past master of geopolitical manipulation.

I think you can definitely accuse him of being stupid, at least by the standards of non-Trump world leaders.

Western politicians like to joke that politics is a blood sport. When they say that in Russia, it's not a metaphor. Cross the wrong people in Russian politics and your seat in the Duma isn't the only thing you could end up losing. That Putin has clawed his way to the very pinnacle of such a brutal system tells you all you need to know about the man.

Yeah, he's a thug who will stop at nothing.

Fuck man. What a disaster

So, absolute best case scenario, is that Trump got so nervous around a rival world leader he nearly pissed himself and drastically misspoke and was afraid to say anything directly contradictory in Putin’s presence even if he does actually believe it and instead just nod along and agree?

And that’s the best case scenario for the reasoning for all this bullshittery

His couldn't even keep his story straight today, while he was reading what his team came up with to try to dig him out of the pit he put himself in yesterday, with Trump trying to pretend like replacing "I don't see a reason why it would be Russia" with "I don't see why it wouldn't be Russia" (which is a double negative and very awkward English) doesn't contradict everything else he said during the press conference. And then today, he made a point, quickly, to say that it could have been a lot of people also because there were a lot of people in the world. If you really don't see why it wouldn't be Russia, just fucking read what your PR people wrote and leave the room, but he can't, he has to bail out of unequivocally calling Russia out.

I dunno, man.
She isn't goofy-left, mostly, but she's a decent example

It's the long con. She spent five decades fighting for causes supported by the left but once she was in office, she planned to switch and be a "corporatist" (whatever @Peteyandjia means by that). It wouldn't have worked, too, if it hadn't have been for that meddling FBI!

Unreal. Also crossing out the line in his speech about bringing meddlers to justice, instead yelling about no collusion.

Yeah, he's a thug who will stop at nothing.

He's got pretty much everything he's set his sights on, Jack. And the all the non-Trump world leaders haven't been able to do a damn thing to stop him. Brute strength, cunning and a complete lack of scruples are often more than a match for intelligence.

Sure. Just saying he's actually a dolt. But on any level, people tend to believe that whoever they're dealing with might have opposing interests and be a little weak (and thus prone to some bad behavior) but fundamentally wants to do the right thing as they see it. The few exceptions to that rule have a big edge on the rest of us, at least until we figure them out.

:) No. Putin is a dolt, but one of our parties has undergone a complete intellectual and moral collapse, which made them ripe for this kind of takeover. We need for the principled right to take a stand against this kind of thing, and maybe create a new party.
Don't sleep on Putin. He's definitely a Grand Master compared to our checkers player.

Keep in mind, he gets Secret Service protection for the rest of his life. He’s got the best, most loyal body guards you could ask for and he’s still too chickenshit to say what he actually thinks.

Yeah, it is time for people to stop acting like he is a dumbass and/or stop trying to psychoanalyze him and search for the reasons behind some assumed insecurity about the elections, he was praising Putin and explaining away his behavior in 2015. Trump is owned, and hopefully Mueller can keep tying the loose ends together to stop Putin from using Trump to achieve Russia's ends.

How Trump supporters look when they point out the things he got right at Helsinki.
