Fine, but why all of a sudden?
You see, the timing is just too convenient for me.
Russian and China are not exactly allies, themselves, so your assertion that Russia will not be an ally against China is pure speculation.
We don't punish countries that fuck with us, case in point: Saudi Arabia.
I'm not buying the hacking as being a serious enough incident that we just decide to go back to the bad old days of the Cold War.
My position, for the nth time is: Russia would be better as a friend than a foe, and taking steps towards that is a good thing.
Every one knows Putin is a bad actor, but since when has that stopped us?
Russia has been for itself, and itself alone, since the Rus rowed boats, through the Czars, through the Soviet Era and it's "reformation" after said era. They would find a much easier ally in China than the US. The reasons are so obvious as to not need stating.
Russia is a foe, and obviously has zero intention of being our friend. So for the president to cover for them when they are being antagonistic in violation of international law, this is an absurd position.
And once again, without measure, you resort to dualistic extremes for no seeming reason. The reality is the options at hand are not Cold War or harmony. Especially so, given the behavior of the Putin regime.
