I think the hacks are negligible. They obviously had zero impact on the election. I'm more interested in seeking a better relationship with the only country that poses a real threat to us currently in order to counter both a rising China nd a global radical islam problem. We don't have to be BFFs, but being mutual partners in a common goal is better than another Cold War. This isn't complicated stuff.
And, as I have stated multiple times, I felt the same way when Obama was prez, and the same for W.

If you do not send a clear, tough message to a nation that undermines your elections, and furthermore obfuscate for it's leader at every turn while blaming your own nation, you open yourself up to further undermining actions.

You punish countries that fuck with you, not capitulate to them, and cover for them on worldwide broadcasts, especially when this nation is poisoning foreign citizens of your ally nations, and has invaded another nation your country supported.

Russia will not be an ally in combating China. It is silly for you to suggest such a thing, and they will not be a principled ally in the Middle East either.

Russian and China are not exactly allies, themselves, so your assertion that Russia will not be an ally against China is pure speculation.
We don't punish countries that fuck with us, case in point: Saudi Arabia.
I'm not buying the hacking as being a serious enough incident that we just decide to go back to the bad old days of the Cold War.
My position, for the nth time is: Russia would be better as a friend than a foe, and taking steps towards that is a good thing.
