I think Putin fucked this up as well....

Finally he has some dirt on the president of the most powerful nation in the world and can basically let him do what he wants like a true puppet master..

But then he lets Trump humiliate himself like the way he did today making 99% of the US population mad. If Putin had played it a little different and had let Trump walk out with some dignity his whole situation could have been much more dangerous. Now it’s just to obvious what’s going on here

Putin has always been very good at short-term scamming, not so much at planning for the long-term.

He absolutely HAS to stay in power. He's stolen so much money from Russia and many oligarchs, they'll lynch him if they get the chance. That's why the Magnitsky act has him so enraged. With so many Oligarchs unable to access their money, it has a lot of people angry at Putin.

Yes, why on Earth would any nation want to take a firm stance with an enemy nation that is actively trying to damage it in very fundamental ways....? All great leaders have acquiesced when weaker nations wage damaging campaigns against them.
