Kasich doesn't like Trump and embarrassed himself by not showing up at the convention in his home state. I wouldn't put it past his team to leak a false story (to the NY Times) to try and make Trump look bad and give cause to his no show. I'll take Trump Jr.'s word over a senior Kasich advisor.

I don't disagree with the quote but Hawking should have been more critical of Islam because Trump pales into insignificance compared to Islam.

Considering the problems emanating from Islam and part of the reason Trump gets shit on is because of his stance on Muslim immigration, he (Hawking) really should have followed up his comments on Trump with comments on Islam. But like everyone else with any sort of public persona, he is too dam scared of being called Islamophobic or being killed.

Hawking isn't the smartest person on the planet.

He is a very intelligent man who benefited from a handicap that makes the public sympathetic to him, he was savvy enough to write books, and market himself through media for mass consumption which spread his fame much more than any hard scientific work he does.

In fact I guarantee you none of the "celebrity" scientists that we learn about in the news or on discovery were ever close to being the most intelligent human on the planet in their respective times.

Scientists become famous not solely because of their intelligence or discoveries, but because of their personalities and ability to market themselves. Einstein was incredibly intelligent, but more importantly to his fame he had an approachable personality, was able to associate with the public, and was able to easily communicate outside the scientific community.

Einstein said Gödel was the most intelligent person to ever live, but no one cared about him outside the scientific community because he had a isolationist personality, his theses were so complex only a half dozen people in the last century could thoroughly understand them, and he literally became a paranoid schizophrenic and starved himself to death in his old age.

Edit: The moral of the story is intelligence does not mean you are a good judge of leadership or politics. Gödel was unfathomably intelligent, and at the same time a complete isolationist who trusted no one other than his wife, religious fundamentalist, and bat-shit insane.
