He’s such a charismatic figure you have to work not to like the guy. The thing is, he was also a scheister, and obviously had some self control issues. On top of that, while his record was generally pretty good, signing of the China Trade Agreement – or whatever the hell it was called, I honestly can’t recall off the top of my head – has impacted America as much as Bush’s legislation that kicked off the real estate crises of the late 00’s. Bill’s a guy that I love but as a president he has some pretty black marks on his legacy, but he had enough success paired with a very charismatic persona that make us forget about a lot of those black marks.
Pretty sure that real estate legislation was Reagan and Bill's as well:
Alternative Mortgage Transaction Parity Act of 1982 (allowed ARMs)
Housing and Community Development Act of 1992 (increased loans to unqualified borrowers)
Gramm-Leach-Billey Act of 1999 (repealed much of Glass Steagall)
Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 (deregulated derivatives)
