President Donald Trump endorsed letting states decide how to regulate marijuana, in a major boost for the legal pot industry.

Colorado Republican Senator Cory Gardner said that as a result of Trump’s assurances, he’ll end a blockade of Justice Department nominees. Gardner held up the nominees after Attorney General Jeff Sessions rescinded an earlier Justice Department memo that shielded marijuana operations in states like Colorado from enforcement of the federal ban on the drug.

"Since the campaign, President Trump has consistently supported states’ rights to decide for themselves how best to approach marijuana," Gardner said in a statement Friday. “President Trump has assured me that he will support a federalism-based legislative solution to fix this states’ rights issue once and for all.”

Interesting, a bit surprising. We seriously need to shift all efforts to fixing the opiate issue anyway.

They make a point about pot stocks increasing. Any experts want to educate us? Seems like a good time to get in the market.

Unwise to trust assurances from Trump. You have to get it in writing, and even then you have to take him court.

Reschedule federally or you're a fucking pussy.

Also, Trump is a pathological liar. He is a flip-flopping, senile, clueless idiot cunt and there is no reason to trust anything he said to some cunt senator.

"Trump runs into burning house and saves trans, minority family."

The left.

But I would like to see a federal solution.

Ok, let me put this in language those who hate trump can understand.

In an effort to boost tax money received by Washington, as well as the market, because Trump is nothing more than greedy Hitler, Trump has decided to back pot decisions made at the state level.

Would you be more inclined to believe it now?

Does not answer the question whether Trump will keep his word, something he has a well documented history of not doing.

No. Tax revenue does not factor into Trump's greed, because tax revenue does not belong to him. That was an inadequate attempt at making people you don't like sound stupid.

This signals another change in drug enforcement policy, and it's especially contrary to the AGs policy. Which is further reason to question if it will actually happen. It's not as if Trump shifted from authoritarian into a Laboratories of Democracy guy overnight.

How does this boost tax money received by Washington? I thought pot sales were taxed by the state?

Ah, but it does massage his ego if it improves the numbers and makes the tax bill look more successful.

And being serious here, Trump loves his ego being massaged.

First off, I’m not too keen on the legal pot industry, hence my question to people in the know.

Washington was a bad way to say the government, my apologies.

It would improve the States situation surely. It’s probably not going to happen under trump, but I’m not sure how long the dam can be held back from it getting federal approval, especially when actual Washington sees they’ll get a cut too.

What numbers? His popularity? He would improve with people who support pot reform and lose with people who don't support pot reform. Hard to say how that would balance out.

I’m not sure there’s a lot of people except the far right, who are still interested in fighting the war on pot.

Where the hell is the far right going to go? I suppose they could stay home in November, but let’s be honest, you wag the abortion bone in front of them and you’ll have them back at the polls.

I think there are more people to be gained than lost.

Here in co each resident got a little extra in our tax refund last year. The state collected to much tax from pot sales per the legislation. We have both medical and recreational. Recreational is taxed higher than med. But, it is all heavily regulated be the M.E.D ( Marijuana inforcement division) and it is very very expensive to obtain the licensing making the black market here as big as it was before legalization. People from all over the states come here to buy and return to their states but buyers are regulated to only be able to purchase a few grams legally per day. So they find locals and buy in bulk on the black market. If the reduced regulation and allowed anyone to open a dispensary there would be absolutely huge tax revenue. Would cripple the black market here.
I am pro pot legalization but it needs to be regulated more similarly to alcohol.

That's probably true. I checked the polling and last year we crossed the '50% of Republicans' barrier for supporting legalization. But I don't know how important this is as far as being a deciding issue for voters. Another thing is that his presidency is in serious need of a popular reform, and this could be an easy one to get.

Trump would win the next election in a landslide if he came out and yelled "420!" at the next convention. Americans would give up a lot for weed.
