Social Toy Collectors Thread

Picked this up recently. It looks way better in person in a darker light. It's hard to find a good Daredevil sculpt and to me this is probably the best one.

I really want a good set of TMNT figures. I think the Playmates classic series is probably ideal but they aren't cheap. It's my goal to get cartoon-accurate toys of all of my favorite cartoons growing up. Transformers is complete. TMNT, GI Joe, He-man and a few others left.

The 6" Marvel Legends red Daredevil not good enough? There's a black and red one in stores now, but I prefer the red one from comic reading kid days.

I believe I saw news about some upcoming or recently released TMNT aside from the all black and white comic shading ones and the Batman crossover ones that might be Gamestop exclusive. How about the Mega Construx Heroes minifigure one? They also have He-Man, Star Trek, X-Files, etc. licenses.

This Mega Construx Call of Duty Special Forces Soldier could pass as Snake Eyes.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this one...

I love the Revoltech comic book line. They're all extremely posable and have a great comic book aesthetic to them. The biggest downer is that some of their figures look odd in a basic standing pose due to all of the joints and points of articulation, but they look amazing once you get them posed right.

So for this year's Triple Force Friday, didn't set foot in any brick and mortar stores and ordered the following online:

X-Wing Pilot Luke TVC
Mandalorian regular not metallic Black Series
Shadow Trooper TVC (all black OT Stormtrooper w/pauldron)
Sith Trooper TVC regular, not the armory version Amazon exclusive for $5 extra for a few extra weapons accessories, didn't feel the extra weapons were worth $5 extra

From a bunch of TFF Youtube vids, seemed like not worth the trouble driving around midnight or early morning since a lot of the stores didn't have much stuff stocked, maybe due to employees cherrypicking and super early scalpers.

When I first saw the red Sith Trooper, wasn't impressed, but may as well add another Stormtrooper variation to the collection. I'm reading Darth Bane 1 and he was a Sith Trooper briefly, I think, so I'll pretend that's him.

Opened my second Star Wars Black Series: Bossk. Seems to stand much better than shitty sculpted Luke Stormtrooper. The elbows have barely any range.

Also, I saw there was something called Mini Yamaguchi a few years ago of Metal Gear Solid Liquid Snake, Venom Snake, Cyborg Ninja around 4". The face likenesses weren't great, but I would have liked to buy those. From a video, I saw you could even articulate the eyes to look in a direction.

I want a nice Bossk figure. I recently bought the Hot Toys Yoda, posed him here trying to mimic the scene when he’s getting ready to fight Dooku

I got a lightbox and lights to try and take pics. This is my first one.

Which light box did you buy? I'm looking at getting one. You follow trooper guy on IG? He suggested one for me, but looking to see what other people use

I follow a few people on IG and alot of them do outside shots with lights but this is the one I got.

I would recommend a portable battery charger to so you can move the lights outside if you want. I still have no idea what I am doing but I am trying to learn

Thanks, yeah I have no idea what I'm doing with photography and lighting either. I just use my iPhone but some of these guys get crazy serious with their shots

So I have all my old toys from childhood sitting in boxes up in the attic somewhere. Mostly Star Wars (original trilogy era) and Masters if the Universe (original run). Probably some GiJoe etc as well.

All very used, probably missing accessories.

Any point in trying to get some $ for these? Better to sell as a lot or individuals?

Nice use of light, but is that a huge crop or was the focus distance too close for the lens?

I was using my phone and it was a huge crop cause I had Vader Standing on a wallet and I think I had to crop for IG too but

I should have been using my camera instead of my phone. I really just starting from scratch here and can use tips if anyone has any.

Here is the original unedited.

Yeah if you have a camera use it, phones can take decent pictures but when you start trying to manipulate the scene their limitations come glaring in, like in this photo.

Do you have a macro lens?

I do. It's a 35mm one and will try to get some photos today with it today if I can. I need to get better with Photoshop too cause I want the light saber to glow but not sure how to.

@Smokes

You can also get a macro close up filter to use with whatever lens you have now before dropping the coin on a dedicated macro lens.

I didn’t watch this video, it’s just the first one that popped up but it’s on Hoya macro filters.

I have the set of three I’ve had for Decades.

Mine is +1,+2 and +4.

A single +1 or +2 would be perfect for your target sized shooting.

Dam I just check to see what filters I have none like those. I guess I will have to order me some soon.

This is the lens I have and mainly use it for protait pics.

That should work well, pair it with a 50 1.8 on the cheap and a +1 macro filter and you should have a good range of shooting for a while

The close focus distance on the 35 is only like 5’ though.

If you still have the original boxes, you're sitting on a goldmine. A lot of collectors I've seen at shows say "The box is half the money." If they're not in the box or on the card and in decent shape, you can probably get some money if they're older and rarer figures.

I'm no appraiser, but I keep the boxes of my higher end figs, and the ones on card I just don't remove at all.

I always wanted a big cool T-rex model. Since I was 6. It turned out I only had to wait 24 years.

I've got a bunch of cardbacks and boxes to throw away. I don't buy duplicates and it's a matter of time before I open.

I have an unopened Power of the Force muscular Boba Fett I kept unopened for many years and I think it's available new for not a lot more than original retail price.

I've got Marvel Universe 3.75" comic two pack Hulk & John Byrne Cyclops unopened. Since Hasbro discontinued that scale, I can't really add to that collection. I did see a Black Widow vs Street Fighter Ryu in similar if not same scale, but the Ryu was poorly done.

The other day Disney Store had a gigantic Boba Fett for $25. No idea on articulation. The paint detail was good. Maybe I should go back and buy one.

EDIT:

13.5" fully articulated talking Boba Fett.
