8-10k to show, is that bad.

Not if you are an undeveloped prospect trying to speed-run your career.

But hypothetically we want fighters to be far more complete by the time they reach the UFC so we don't have to get low-level match-making for 50% of the fights on cards to insure they don't get killed by the legit competition.

There's a reason Fight Nights are 70% trash and it's because they've systematically been filling the ranks with low-level prospects from the Contender Series to keep costs low....some turn out to be solid, most end up getting chewed up/washed out and never should have been in the UFC in the first place (if it truly is the "apex" of fighting talent).
