Volk’s 22 fight win streak
JDM’s 18 fight win streak

Meanwhile Ilia’s last opponents:
Charles only 1 win
Max 3 fight win streak
Alex coming off ko loss to Islam
Mitchel 6 fight win streak
Emmet coming off a loss

As you can see, you can’t seriously compare their resumes. It’s not even close.

Max is Ilia’s most impressive win. Max did not show any sign of decline before the Ilia fight. Maybe the weight cut did play a small role, but thats it. Great win for sure, but Islam’s resume is just better.

Slow the speed down on a better quality video of that fight and it's clear that Volk's punch lands on Islam's shoulder while Islam was in process of going down to grab Volk's leg. He was just to gassed to do anything but pull guard and wait for the the final seconds of the fight to run out.

? Both still Top 5 fighters fighting at a higher weightclass. Islams resume is Volk, who is much much smaller and still gave him hell in the first fight, and got koed on short notice. Oliveira, who had 7 losses and gets dropped in every fight he ever takes. Poirier (who retired 1 year after his fight with Islam after getting beaten by Holloway).

Ilia meanwhile fought Volk and Max at their best weightclass, without a size advantage and koed both. Both went on to win big fights after.
Koed Charles (who is a much bigger fighter) in a far more one sided fashion than Islam who is the SAME SIZE as Oliveira.

So Ilia beat elite guys the same size or bigger than himself by annihilation.

Islam beat smaller or same sized opponents in far less impressive fashion. And JDM, who as we will see soon is a top 5 WW but nothing more.
