Topuria’s trying to speed run the “McGregor Career”.

Maybe he actually is having trouble with weight cuts and wants to move up for his own health
Just a thought
You guys who constantly compare him to Conor are weird

No, thats how bad of a grappler Conor is. He's so bad that Nate Diaz - who got out wrestled by multiple featherweights - took him down twice.

This is why you cannot compared Topuria to Conor, which is the title of this thread. Topuria is literally a black belt with 8 submission wins.

FFS are you on mushrooms?
Bryce Mitchell out wrestled Ilia until he got hurt standing.

You are not a serious person

When every guy does this and does not defend, defending becomes more impressive

Well, not every guy does it, so...

Also, you can think one is more impressive, but that doesn't make the other meaningless.

I’m not buying the weight cut story. At his height, that’s easy work when you’re a 28 year old man.

If he loses to Mak, he’s going right back down to 145.

If he beats Mak, he’ll become an overnight sensation.

If he loses, then it’s barely a blemish in his record because Mak is such a monstrous fighter.

It’s actually a smart gamble.

I'll word it better.

So many champs v champ fights when the one making the move hasn't cleaned the division makes devalued champ v champ so much that it's becoming meaningless

So you think if Ilia would beat Islam it would mean nothing? Really?

You shouldn't use the word "meaningless" if you want to word it better.
It would be the absolute best win of his career, but you think it would be meaningless...

Just because you don't like a certain trend, doesn't mean it therefore doesn't have meaning anymore. Just say that it takes away from your enjoyment or something.

It clearly would mean a lot in terms of legacy building, fan appreciation and the credit he'd get from the entire sport. SD would likely crash if Ilia would K Islam TFO! It would be a historic event. But you think because others have tried similar goals, it therefor becomes devoid of meaning. Most of us don't ascribe meaning that way.

He did defend his title and relinquished his title as soon as he moved up to lightweight (instead of holding the title hostage for a year). If he is trying to be like Conor, he is not doing it very well.

Sad way to see the sport, greatness is based on great wins and how they looked. No list of calculations will ever told me who the greats are. Check how many people think of Khabib as a GOAT contender and still put him above Makhachev.
And Topuria's match ups in lightweight are infinitely more interesting than those he has in featherweight.

It’s actually the best way to see the sport. Anointing a GOAT after a handful of defenses is retarded.

Illia really is making a potential career ruining move.

Lopes, Movsar, Volk rematch - Illia wins all these. Islam is a terrible matchup for him.

I’m leaning towards agreeing with this but an ageing Volk gave Islam all he could handle in their first fight so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Ilia could pull it off

I’ll happily sit on the fence though

Mitchell went 1 of 9. ONE OF NINE for take downs. That is 11%.

Topuria batters him then submits him in under 2 rounds.

I know you are a weirdo angry shit poster around here, but I have to ask... is this getting old? This is bad for you friend. Come to the light.
