Media Topuira doesn’t want to give Volk a rematch

Does anyone want Volk to rematch immediately? The guy's brain must be mush, he needs to sit out until the end of the year and recover after getting KTFO twice in 4 months. I would not mind a rematch down the line, but I would mind if that means that Topuria doesn't stay active. He could fit AT LEAST one defense before Volk should be ready to fight again. So sure - Volk gets a rematch in ~1 year while Topuria fights next challenger this summer.

If Volk wins, especially if it's by decision, we'll get set up for a 3rd fight. I hate instant rematches

No, he's now suffered two brutal finishes in a row - he needs to take most of 2024 off IMO. Heal up, come back towards Christmas.

There is no reason to think a rematch would go any differently. There was zero controversy here, Topuria won soundly.

A rematch for Volk would actually damage his legacy imo - as it does with most of these guys who lose to the same guy again in the immediate rematch.

It’s Volks first loss at FW, after a super dominant reign as champion, in questionable circumstances (quick turnaround after a hard KO) … and he was comfortably winning for 1.5 rounds on all judges scorecards until getting caught with the KO.

So this is a case where a rematch is absolutely warranted, but Volk MUST take at least 7 months off (2 of complete rest, 2 of moderate training, 3 of full on camp).

<KhabibBS>So he doesn't want to fight anyone? Max, Volk, Ortega? I guess there's just Elovev who noone other than hardcores ever really heard of. Damn Spaniards

If they are quoting his post fight press conference, he went on to say later that Volk actually makes the most sense and that in the end he will take on anyone the UFC puts in front of him.
I'm happy you're the first post. It's so disappointed how people are so purposefully misleading. It's one thing if its just idiots online, but this is an ESPN post?

Rematches hold the title for a full year. Longer if you consider before and after the 2 fights. We're "lucky" to see a champ defend 2x a year. It's also just been exhausting.

I get that people love Volk but that was as fucking decisive as it gets.

Dude was asleep in the air and knocked out cold.

And you could see it coming.
It was no fluke.

Volk got finished

Its not like it was a close split decision

Let Volk fight Movsar Evloev or Josh Emmett, then get a title shot if he wins

Ilia can fight Max Holloway if Max beats Gaethje - or the winner of Yair vs Ortega

Topu knowz he only got that KO because volk didn't wait long enough after his previous KO. Sad really to see Topu trying to dodge the biggest threat to his title.

Topurria seems to be drinking the same "secret juice" Costa uses... His performance seemed very suspect...

I agree. Volk can win a fight to fight for a title again. I know one was outside of the division but two KO losses in a row should definitely mean no title shot.

Max if he pulls off the upset vs Gaethje and comes back down, or Evloev.

Evloev absolutely does not deserve a title fight. Everyone needs to just stop with this nonsense.

Arnold Allen didn't get a title fight after being on a 10 fight win streak, with wins over higher ranked guys, but now Evloev gets a gift decision over him and all of a sudden that's title worthy.

no it should not especially when you just said one was completely irrelevant...
