Khabib Vs Tony 2015 Tony could definitely win against 2015 Khabib

The Cable Cord and Justin ruined his career.

He didn’t properly rehab his knee and he looked sloppy in the Pettis fight

He had a couple of nice top-10 wins against Thomson and Edson, but, Tony's win over Rafael Dos Anjos was his lone top-5 win in the UFC.
Yes, he was very good and his win streak was VERY impressive, but is it not possible that he was hugely overestimated and overrated?
There are people that still SWEAR that he would have beaten Khabib.

I realize he's a bit older, but once he started fighting the REAL cream of the crop in Gaethje, Charles, Beneil, etc., look what happened.

Tony's streak had as many top 10 wins as Islam currently does.

he also had as many top 10 wins as Khabib did in his streak with a higher finishing % (pre-Khabib title), and people claimed Khabib was being withheld from the title fight he deserved.

So I mean, overrated? Sure, as we overrate absolutely everyone.

So I did some fact checking...then lost my post and links. Others are welcome to do the same research. Khabib only has two Top 5 wins: Poirier and Gaethje. I haven't even confirmed this, but I assume both guys were. However,
  • Conor dropped out of the rankings before fighting Khabib after a 2-year layoff and only one LW fight
  • RDA was #10 before he fought Khabib in 2014
  • Al Iaquinta wasn't Top 5 and I don't think even Top 10 when he fought Khabib.
So there you go...the guy many consider the LW GOAT has a total of one more whopping Top 5 win than Tony does.

Tony showed up, made weight for 209 and was ready.
Khabib failed his weight cut, went to hospital, and never showed up to fight.
Tony 1 Khabib 0

The fight was cancelled 5 times.
Each fighter pulled out twice and once it was because of a global pandemic.
That sounds pretty even to me.

There are some intangibles as well like Tony’s craziness and determination that made him lucky. That is a part of fighting as well.

I'm talking about stuff like:
  • Castillo was possibly a robbery
  • Khabib fight was supposed to happen here but didn't
  • Tony illegally upkicked Barboza which hurt Barboza and changed the fight
  • Rematch with Johnson who last beat him was supposed to happen here but didn't
  • Khabib fight was supposed to happen here but didn't
  • Vannata was short notice so never could take proper advantage of the like 5x he dropped Tony
  • Eyepoked RDA extraordinarily badly in conveniently the only early round RDA lost and Tony only took over in the later rounds, preventing RDA from possibly winning a 48-47 without it
  • Khabib fight was supposed to happen here, then rematch with Johnson was proposed to replace but Tony refused
  • Lee had massive staph which caused him to gas and Tony to only take over once that happened
  • Khabib fight was supposed to happen here but didn't
  • Pettis breaks his own hand dropping Tony, which prevents him from being able to properly follow up to try and finish, then further prevents him from defending back. Then his coach throws in the towel rather than Tony stopped him or Pettis quit himself
  • Tony refuses Holloway and Poirier because he doesn't want another fake interim belt. Instead weirdly fights Cerrone.
  • Cerrone suffers a legal blow that breaks his nose and vet that he is never tries to play with it all round. Tony then illegally blasts him twice on that broken nose after the bell and a visibly hurt and confused Cerrone all of the sudden now blows out his nose which causes his face to blow up and the doctor stop the fight. It's ruled a TKO instead of a DQ for the twice illegal blows that actually stopped the fight
  • Khabib fight was supposed to happen. Conor can't accept because of COVID lockdowns, Justin instead steps in
I don't see how anybody could look at his streak and not see just how many things had to happen to keep it going. It was constantly in danger of being derailed. Because he wasn't someone so much better than his competition, if he ever even truly was.

As I said elsewhere, Justin beating him by outlasting him was about the least expected outcome anybody could've predicted. The grappling fucks and KOs he's experienced afterwards are all the same flaws he'd shown all along and are how he should've lost so many times throughout it without all the luck, fouls, decisions, and outside factors that kept happening and kept it all going.

Could it be possible that the rankings don't mean as much as you are implying?

Anthony Pettis
Donald Cerrone
Kevin Lee
Rafael dos Anjos
Lando Vannata
Edson Barboza
Josh Thomson
Gleison Tibau
Abel Trujillo
Danny Castillo
Yves Edwards

These are all recognizable names

That's a very valid point.
Thank you for being respectful. I appreciate kind and THOUGHTFUL input.
