A few years back, Tom was a nobody that was crying over 50k bonus from Dana. He was struggling and had to borrow money from his parents. I believe him and his wife were even living near Tom's parent's home and Tom would regularly come home to raid his parents house for food.

After the Jon Jones saga, Tom became very famous and built a brand off Jon jones ducking him. Many people referred to him as "the baddest man on the planet". His youtube channel also got a massive spike in subscriber, as well as, his other social media accounts.

I believe that Tom fears losing and going back to being irrelevant too quickly. He fears Jon Jones prophecy of being here today and gone tomorrow fighter. And as a result, the belief that some people have of him choosing a way out from the fight with Ganes, when he realize that Ganes was better than expected might hold some truth.

I believe that Aspinall does understand that he will eventually lose but I think that his fear stems from losing too quickly. He wants to build up a legacy like Cain, Stipes, ngannou before eventually losing. He also wants to make as much money as possible and losing this soon is sure to affect his ability to do so. I mean Dana does not like the guy as champion, now imagjne how difficult it would be for him if he lost.

"Built a brand off Jon Jones ducking him"

Some of y'all really need to touch grass more. Great job discrediting any actual accomplishments he has.

in the worst case scenario he has still time for earning some big paychecks, unless he shares Conor's spendig habits or Diego Sanchez's financial skills (or lack of them) he'll be fine.

the new generation is fucked.

imagine being a completely self made man, surviving physical assault daily, rising to the top, becoming HW champion of the world and then letting retarded comments from "fucking low life losers" on a dead messageboard completely get to you.

jones and everyone is right. he's mentally weak.

Tom's accomplishments include beating a few good guys, beating some cans, losing here and there, getting finished by Blaydes in under 30 seconds, and getting the HW belt via email, getting finished by Gane in under a round, and finally coming down with the dreaded Brown Syndrome according to an official diagnosis by Dr. Chatgp.

stop whingeing, beat the shit out of gane, all is forgotten
Based on his most recent interview, he's going to drag this on for months more. It sounded like he had no urgency to set up the rematch any time soon.

Whenever he returns he's just going to go through the motions to fight out the remaining two fights on his contract, and leave the UFC.

Fairly or not, he's at Ngannou levels of being on Dana's shit list now.

Im quite sure Tom and his father made a business decision with the eye injury.

Tom established a name as the new "jones killer" and was able to ride that wave for a long time, longer than all before him.

When Tom realized he couldn't take Gane down, outstrike him and started getting busted up, he rightfully saw his career ending before his eyes (functioning eye)

The injury buys him some time, even if Gane beats him a later date.

TDS pandemic sweeping through. 50 threads in a week, they losin' it. <30>Mask up, vaxx up, stay safe out there

He already lost it without even losing the fight.

What im not sure is, are they attributing all of his alleged eye issues to an eye poke? And even if it came from there, whats the timeline for his return? Interim title might be in the works, this thing has bought him like a year to get better, and nothing garantees Gane going to be his next opponent and Gane can replicate his gameplan twice, he was on his way to getting the title.

There is certainly something off about his mentality, this has been very evident just listening to his interviews off and on the last couple years. He doesn't want to actually fight for any substantial period in the UFC, he's on record stating he would just give up his belt so his training partner/friend could have it, the whole Nina drama finger thing was insane, etc.

I believe he has imposter syndrome. The marketing machine built him into something he's not, and he knows that deep inside. Despite his age, he's actually a baby in fight years. He doesn't truly know his limits or how bad he really wants this. How could he? He's basically had zero adversity until a couple of months ago.

I think he wants to go back to a nice humble life, away from all the lights and attention. For now though, he's in the thick of it trying to make some money. He seems like a nice person who's trapped in the hurt business. His talent and physical gifts have gotten him this far, but when that fades and he actually has to be hit he won't want to do this anymore. We already saw an early preview in the Gane fight. Real All-time great HW's don't do that with the entire MMA world watching, that was unprecedented.

Tom is very self-aware when it comes to fighting, his whole pitch with the Jones fight was that he was bigger and younger and might be able to catch him, he's actually not delusional about his ability. Tom fanboys actually believed he would run through Gane, despite Aspinall himself saying Gane would be his toughest fight.
