You know, the exact same mirroring of "cherrypicking" Pereira over his true contender in Jones, that you guys have bitched so much about when it's Jones doing it to Tom.

You made the accusation of some nebulous group of "people" about how they would totally reverse their excitement level if the fight went from the prospect of "Jon versus Pereira" to "Tom versus Pereira", implying some kind of double standard whilst totally ignoring all of the relevant context.

I legitimately don't know what you're talking about with the cherrypicking bit. I feel like if Jones got stripped/vacated he wouldn't stick around in the sport to be a "true contender", which I felt was pretty obvious but then again you have a habit of missing the point so maybe not.

That's not what I said... at all. I said that potential fights can be exciting and we can hold that sentiment while still ultimately valuing legitimacy in matchmaking and "who deserves it"... sort of like insisting on the supposedly undisputed champ unifying against the defending interim champ. That was, in fact, my entire point. How you managed to mix that up to the point that you tried to reframe it as "lol it doesn't matter, just make fun fights" is hilarious... but see above about you missing the point.

Ngannou made his decision. I never gave Jones shit for not fighting a guy who ultimately left the promotion over a financial dispute. Jon won the vacant title against a top contender in Gane and I have always acknowledged as much. I know there's a subset of fans who will continue to mock Jon for "ducking HW until Francis left" but I'm not one of them, so kindly engage with me and the points I am making rather than building a strawman.

No, you're just incapable of assessing context. In the hypothetical scenario posited above, Jones is stripped of the title or voluntarily vacates it. That, to me, indicates that he is unwilling to fight Aspinall or otherwise carry on in the sport. Because if he was... then he'd be fighting him in a unification bout. If that's the case, then Tom gets promoted and I would have zero qualms about him choosing to fight whatever contender is next -- Pereira included. Jon/Alex was a travesty only in the narrow context of continuously ignoring a defending interim champ to fight someone from another weight class.

Can you wrap your brain your brain around that or do I need to use smaller words and shorter sentences?
