To Everyone Saying Jones is Cherrypicking Stipe

DC already KO’d Stipe cold.
Boy wait till you find out about their next 2 fights.

Jon absolutely wants to beat the only other guy who beat DC.

at the end of the day Jones will always be talked about in GOAT contention either way. He has already beaten everyone he has fought. and the list of names on his resume is best in the history of the sport. for me personally I'd like to see him fight Stipe. Then possibly Poatan at HW. the aspinall fight doesnt intrigue me as much as the other two. the only reason aspinall has a "belt" is because they ufc needed a title fight on the MSG card.
So you’re more interested in seeing Jones face a 42 year old coming off of a KO loss and a guy that has never fought at heavyweight instead of the Interim HW Champ?!
Let’s all be grateful that you are not the UFC matchmaker.

Against Aspinall, Jones gets KTFO in under 90 seconds.
Are you high? Jones has by far the best striking defense of anyone Aspinall has ever faced, the best clinch work to be found, has never been held down on the ground, and a six inch reach advantage he knows how to use. Aspinall would be most unlikely to knock Jones out, or even down, within 90 seconds. After some wear and tear it would be a live possibility, but in 90 seconds? You've gotta be kidding.

Yeah the guy who arguably beat the champion who vacated, would've literally been still reigning at the time, and hasn't lost since either, was the poorer win.
I don't know who takes the "arguably beat Ngannou" argument seriously. I was pulling for Gane in that one and thought he lost pretty clearly.
You can't really say he hasn't lost since when he has cherry picked and rank squatted since then. I mean, yeah, he hasn't lost but he is 2-1 in since then and only beat carefully selected opponents. Sergei on the other hand smashed everyone in front of him and violently finished them in the first round.

Jones was bullied pretty easily by DC in the clinch in their second fight and his boxing leaves a ton to be desired. Most of his striking defense has amounted to throwing his fingers out to "find range" and knee stomps. Yeah, he's effective at not getting hit, but lets not pretend he is the same fighter he was years ago. Even against Gane, he plodded forward slowly before capitalizing on Gane's sloppy straight.

I doubt Aspinall wrecks him as fast as he did everyone else, but to discount the possibility is nonsense and nostalgia.

And Ngannou left.

So please explain to me like I'm 5 how Jon doesn't prove he's the champ by fighting the very same guys Ngannou fought to be considered champ.

If Jon had just skipped Gane you guys would be throwing some other hissy fit about how he didn't fight the guy who arguably beat Ngannou in Ngannou's last title fight.
Bruh, don’t know why you are saying you guys. The belt is tainted cuz he hasn’t beat ngannou. Gonna have to get over it my man. He’s going to be called illegitimate. Beating a worse off version of Stipe doesn’t magically bring some sort of legitimacy. I agree, he would get shit on for not fighting Gane. Don’t know what that has to do with anything. The situation is what it is. And before you get crazy and say well then the belt will never be legitimate. Sure it will. When there’s fighters who aren’t, at the very least, perceived to have avoided ngannou. Now whether or not that is the case, I don’t know. But you know, perception/reality blah blah blah. Now, to your point, I guess, he would still be shit on if he beat Aspinall. It’s a no win situation as far as legacy. And maybe, rightfully so. Maybe not.

Aspinall is trying to pick a fight with the baddest dude on the planet. That is not a bad thing.

Jones is old and wants to retire undefeated having beaten everyone in his lane, so he's holding out for Stipe. That is not a bad thing.

If we get lucky, Jones will beat stipe and book a fight with Aspinall.
Don't hold your breath.

There will be fights almost every weekend this year.

Stop sweating the meaningless stuff. Enjoy the fights.

Gane shouldn't get a title shot right now. So denying him is warranted. Blades just got toppled by the guy that Tom KO'd to win the intern belt. So denying him is warranted. J. A. hasn't done anything to be gifted a title shot either, unless you a HW crotch sniffing fan. So denying him is warranted.

Aspinall is only on a 2 fight win streak so denying him is also warranted.

See how this works?

There aren't any deserving challengers right now.

Aspinall and Pavlovich were the two clear-cut top challengers, but the UFC used them to create a fake belt. And with Blaydes-Almeida already booked for March, the only person left is Gane. But Gane's lost 2 title fights already and actively ducked Aspinall before he got the belt.

Point being, Aspinall's trying to make the best out of a ridiculous situation.
