This is why Gary Oldman is the greatest actor of this generation.

He's the actor sherdog deserves. Just not the one it needs right now.

He's great and I put him alongside Edward Norton.

Daniel Day Lewis and Tom Hanks are a level above though, much more challenging roles and better delivery.

TWBB is the best acting performance ever imo.
Don't think Oldman has ever carried a movie like that.

Just a level above imo.

Guy WAS phenomenal and, in the 90s (basically the time from when all of your clips are from) of course I agree, but today? Please. He has been a shell for years, much like Ridley Scott as a director.

His performances in movies like Planet of the Apes and Batman were laughable. No depth. Little random unnecessary screaming.

Young Goldman (Sid and Nancy, the Professional, Dracula) was a bonafide acting genius.

Daniel Day is basically the best actor to ever live. Also, in the ever continuing hypothetical game of celebrity MMA fights my friends and I concoct, I have him as the undisputed, undefeated champion for several years now, because his rage overcomes any man in the end.

Kids these days know nothing about range. DDL has problems playing a likeable character. Can you imagine him playing a role where he needs to truly be vulnerable?

He's great at over the top and slightly crazy but he has trouble playing normal or weak.

I guess you haven't watched Age of Innocence, In the Name of the Father or Lincoln.

Just to be clear maybe we should specify "Baby Boomer" generation.

Who is the actress equivalent of Oldman? Tilda Swinton?

I'm going with Sean penn. top-three greatest actors of all-time.

That's about right. Chameleonic for about three decades. Largely unrecognizable. Can't really carry a film alone. I'd say Swinton's more versatile; I've rarely seen Oldman do a comedy and he looks like he'd be out of place in one.

DDL didn't even have the best performance in There Will Be Blood.

Paul Dano was brilliant in the movie, btw.
He doesn't get nearly as much credit as he deserves for it.
But if you were implying he did better than DDL then I simply disagree.

It would be incomplete without him though.
TWBB is one of the few great movies from the last 10 years.
