It can be done without trying to hit 300 miles per hour.
Newsom's high-speed rail was only designed to go ~125mph, if, and that's a mighty big if, it ever gets finished.
Even then, it's a high-speed rail from nowhere to nowhere. (Madera - Bakersfield) IOW, a boondoggle.
Amtrak and Metrolink commuter trains typically achieve speeds of ~80mph between stops.
I commuted on these between So. Orange County and North Hollywood/Burbank for a couple of years.
The average speed on this route drops to ~20mph because of the 12 or so stops at various stations along the way.
The only advantage I found commuting on a train vs. driving a car is that trains are more consistent in inclement weather.
High speed rails aren’t bullet trains which go 250-350mph, per your own source
Never said they were. Re-read what I posted. My only mention of bullet trains was that they typically travel at ~220mph.
Everything else I wrote was about high-speed rail, which typically travel at 90-125mph.
