Ever since getting the boot from my house in Sedona by my mother-in-law, I've been almost obsessively thinking of Southern California. I realize that I'm romanticizing it because it's where I met my wife but that's OK. If I'm going to romanticize someplace it might as well be SoCal because everyone else does it. My obsession is specifically about Orange County since that's where Jana & I spent the vast majority of our time together when I met her there a few years ago. I only saw a little bit of LA & the rest of the time we spent in her hometown of Orange, her old neighborhood in Newport Beach where she lived while she was in college, Santa Ana, Costa Mesa & some other places too. And I fell in love with it. I didn't think I'd want to go back there without my wife but it's actually become the opposite. I feel like it's calling me & that I'd feel closer to her there.

I'm a Ca native 51 born in east LA... Expensive huge traffic jams high gas prices etc chased me out in 93' after college. I literally could not afford to live...only go back to see my parents and my eyes start watering due to smog. Fuck that place.

I live in las Vegas and Pensacola fl now. Better climate and better beaches.

Give it a year, bezzer. Whether your folks are trying to get you to socialise and that being annoying, they're being nice and trying to look after you. You aren't ready for that yet. You aren't ready to make that trek over again. And what if you get there and realise you can't do it without her? It wasn't long ago you said you couldn't ever go there again without her. It's far too raw for you right now. It's only been what, 3 months? Let the dust settle, I know you don't like being back in Buffalo but it really is the best option for the time being.

I'll give you a right telling off if you head back this way again.

Have you considered doing a food bank thing again? I know you can barely want to do anything at the moment but it might put you on the right path to getting at least a tiny weeny stage further.

Orange county is nice but you better have a good job and a decent chunk of money.

Since you've already been to socal won't waste my time trying to talk you out of it. I'm sure you remember the traffic and homeless (which has gotten worse since you left).

But I will say this. Are you sure this is the best way for you to move forward? Or is it rather the best way for you to keep clinging to the past?

I'd say mourn her for as long as you need to, but at some point it has to end. Might take a year or more. And it doesn't mean you forget her. It just means you've learned how to live with the loss, and are ready to blaze your own path through life again.

Whatever you choose, I hope it works out for you.

Do you want to go there ?
Do you know you want to go there ?
Can you go there ?

If yes is the answer to the above then do it !! Good luck !
Remember luck favours the brave.
As long as you´re doing it for the right reasons then you´re safe.

LA is the greatest city on earth. You sir sound like a hater. Isn’t FL literally being hit with a hurricane like right now (weather is way better here). It’s expensive because it’s where everyone wants to be here, but not everyone is built to make it here.

Post so nice you should read it twice.

also, SoCal is amazing but I definitely suggest creating some type of plan for coming out here. It is quite expensive and without proper prior planning it might not be the experience you hope it to be. With that said I love Cali, I was born here and have made quite a life here. It is the land of opportunity but it isn’t easy you 100% need to come ready to deal with the high cost of living. It is sink or swim more so than most states but if you properly traverse these waters it is a life beyond your wildest expectations. As I’ve told you before if you do come out here I will treat you to a meal and if you need any connections job wise I may be able to help you out. I know a lot of people in SoCal that own various businesses including myself. Best wishes brotha.

Well if he couldn't afford to live there why is he a "hater". It just wasn't possible. And lol @ anyone saying "greatest city on earth". Because you've been to them all? And I flippin LOVE LA, so don't call me a "hater". It's been a consideration the last few days, amongst many.

I called him a hater because he said fuck LA.
I love my city so yea he came off like a hater. I don’t need to meet every dog on earth to know mine is the best or eat every cookie in earth to know my mom makes them the best. It’s just my opinion, shouldn’t be taken as law.

You're right, of course. I just in a funk about having returned to Buffalo & not having found my own place yet. I'm having such a hard time finding one because I'm being picky & indecisive. Plus finding an apartment that will allow my two cats is more troublesome than I thought. But no worries. I get it sorted.

And thanks for the little friendly smack upside my cheek. I needed it. :D

You're spot on as well, my friend. Thanks. I'll give it a year before making any more big decisions.

Unless, of course, I win the lottery. Then I'll buy houses on both coasts. LOL.

Greatest city on earth... so I imagine you haven't been to many others then?

Which other cities on the planet have you lived? In which other states or countries?

And again, I really do love LA so don't think I'm slagging it off. I would just like to know which other places you're basing it on.

If there's anything you want me to help with chatting up rental agents on your behalf, I'm all too happy to help. Accent and pretty persuasive if I have a worthy goal so if it helps, you're quids in. I'm also addicted to Zillow so you might actually be doing ME a favour.

I actually travel quite often. I say that it’s the greatest city on earth because you can create wealth here unlike most other places. The amount of wealth in the variety of fields that exists here is staggering. meeting connections that can carry you through life isn’t an easy feat but it’s par for the course in this city. Not to mention the weather is perfect year round, and there is beauty from the hills to the beaches and the women in the streets. LA has the debonaire for flair that most other cities try to imitate but fall flat on. Even the traffic and the high cost of living are a testament to the fact that everyone wants to be here. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and my city is the most beautiful one in the world to me.

OK, I'll definitely keep that in mind. Thanks. :)

I’ve only actually lived in Mexico (11 months) and Florida (6 years). Although I’ve traveled to Canada, Peru, Holland, London, Sweden, South Africa, And Germany.

As for visiting US states/cities I’ve quite literally traveled throughout this country. With the exception of some of the Midwest.

Cali has been shit the last few years Imo
From the homeless to high taxes to all the libtards.

Move somewhere down south
:)
