Thinking of SoCal

SOCAL is paradise on earth, especially the LA area. Newport Beach is my second favorite place in SOCAL. If Sydney had a snow resort at least equal to Mammoth it would be right with LA; same with Bordeaux, France - if that area had SOCAL weather I would also put it up with LA.

This is my area; just watch 30 seconds of footage at a few time points. Love this area more than the Westside areas I have lived in.

Sydney is absolute garbage I'd never want to live there. Almost every other city in Australia is better than Sydney, hell even Perth is better.

I love Perth, the weather is more like SOCAL and dry/brown/light green geography. It is just so far from LA, but it was my favorite place in OZ (the Marg River area).

Only city I'd rate worse than Sydney is Adelaide or Darwin, Cause damn they are boring af.

Hi buddy. Have you got a close male friend somewhere near where you are now? Can you maybe hang out with him a bit more? I'm suggesting that because my male friends tend to ground me a bit. Also I like the thoughts some here have had about volunteering at some place you enjoy. My work with a horse therapy program helps me a lot. Another thing that helps when I'm feeling down. Make a list of stuff you'd like to see and go see it. For example if I were near you I'd definitely visit Niagara Falls. I'd also visit the nearest botanical gardens and spend an afternoon there chilling. Maybe a bird sanctuary or bio-park (zoo) as well. Good luck to you.

Thanks, bro.

And no, unfortunately, I don't have any male friends here in Buffalo. They're all scattered across the country now. But that's OK. I've got some grief counseling scheduled now. No, it won't be the same thing that you're talking about but it's something.

As for your suggestions on how to busy myself, I'll keep them in mind. Peace.

Bro. There is a reason a lot of people are moving out of California. Go someplace where you will have a support system. Or someplace where you can make a fresh start. I definitely think sentimentality is working on you here my friend.

Oh, it is for sure. But that doesn't mean I don't love SoCal. But I'm going to give it a while before making any decisions. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing the video. I enjoyed it. As for me, Old Town Orange is up there with Newport Beach as being my favorite.

As a movie buff LA has always been a great place to visit and its a large part as to why OUATIH has become my favorite movie.

On a personal level the movie resonates with me because I would go to LA with a friend of mine and we would watch 2 or 3 movies a day, eat at our favorite places, drive around the Hollywood Hills, take studio tours and revel in the atmosphere there. We even snuck onto the location shoot of The Muppets movie and worked as extras. So when I see Sharon Tate chill watching her movie or Cliff drive around Los Angeles and Rick hanging out on set, or the characters going to dinner, it reminds me of my time in LA (obviously to a much smaller degree) and how much fun I had. I even saw Clu Gulager in person at the New Beverly Cinema (the guy who sells Sharon the book she buys in the movie).

Do you still live in SoCal? If not, it sounds like you should.

I had a good friend of mine who relocated from Buffalo to Burbank & lived there for a couple of years & he hated it. He didn't like the weather, his job, or his apartment. And he moved to North Carolina as soon as he could. Personally, I think he's crazy. But to each their own.

And OUATIH is one of my favorite films as well. Great movie.

I actually have never lived there, just gone there on vacation a handful of times. It's a fun place to visit, but its a tough place to make ends meet...doubt I could make a proper living there.

If you a regular guy, then San Diego might be the better choice; same weather; cheaper to live; but no real night life and few hot women. The main groups who move to San Diego are regular boring types from the greater Boston area and the bottom feeders who wind up in the military. LA has little military so you do not have these odd Third World Pig Famer types running around where they do not belong.
Yeah but fuck that LA traffic.

Chilling? God damn this mug white af, cuh!

I grew up in socal. Still miss it. Last time I went back was for my honeymoon. It was great doing tourist stuff.

Yeah, I know. I could do it if I really wanted to fly by the seat of my pants & then work my ass off. But I don't know. It's a lot to consider. So, I'm going to give it at least a year before I make that sort of decision. I mean, I could go crash on my daughter's couch in Long Beach while I scope things out but I'm still going to wait a year.
I would suggest a three part approach.

Just give it the year period to get normal again.

Then do a pilot run where you’re working and scrimping like you’d need to, and make sure that could work.

Then a few week vacation staying at your daughter’s.

"No night life or hot women in San Diego"

I’ve lived in San Diego my whole life and I love it. You can play golf year round, there’s a million things to do, outside activities galore and obviously some of the best Bjj/MMA gyms in the world.
