Things that are depicted inaccurately in tv/film

E

Everything sucks on Netflix has dirty water come me out.

Cars not starting when they are not old pieces of shit

In the days of carbureted vehicles, a driver could get too much fuel in the engine by pumping the accelerator when they get excited but not with fuel injected vehicles.

"I'll have a beer."

How people in movies never seem to say goodbye or later on the phone they just hang up

Yes but it carried over into the time of fuel injector cars in movies.

How about the guy who can shoot a bird out of the air but can't hit a human from 10 feet away.

Then there's the guy who can take out everyone in a 6 against one fight but runs into trouble fighting one person.

This always bugged me. The movie is called Basic.

Samuel L Jackson is supposed to play a Master Sergeant and he's dressed in Specialist rank. Four ranks off. He's supposed to be high ranking, but hes wearing the rank of a soldier in RANGER TRAINING. He is supposed to train men to be professional survivalists and killers. The key word: professional. The first thing they train you in the army is respect for your uniform and this master sergeant can't even get his rank right. The rank he wore 20 years ago. How do you make that mistake? A horrible wardrobe department and a lack of attention to detail.

Cheesy glasses. Duty belt slung low. Hands on hips. Bag of worms uniform.

Who was the technical advisor ? Jason Blaha?

-fast and furious car chase scenes

-women action heroine scenes dispatching multiple military/MMA trained 6'3 250lb dudes

-Guy to wins the girl over by being a cuck bitch. lol. You know how it goes:

chick dates "asshole" and has cuck male friend
"asshole" nails her best friend or other chick
cuck says something straight to the point
and she ends up "love was right here all along, why didn't I see it?"

real life scenario: she dates another "asshole"

-and one personal one I hate. Hacker scenes. Guy just randomly typing like an autistic retard on a GUI and acting like its all good. No bud, all you did was bring up the GUI to click send email, you didn't do jack shit

It makes me laugh when they take multiple bare fist punches to the face, and the next day all they have is a tiny bruise, often on the forehead.
Or when the plot demands it, the hero knocks out the bad guys easily with one punch.

The whole MRI scene in Terminator Genisys is absolute bullshit. There's so much wrong in that scene that it really ruined an already shitty movie for me. Literally nothing in that scene would or could happen that way in real life.

It's along time ago that I watched it, so don't ask me for the names of the characters or who did what exactly.

Anyway, one of the protagonists 'turns off' the scanner, T-somethingthousand walks in, protagonist turns scanner back on. Completely impossible. The magnetic field of a modern MRI scanner is created by submersing a coil in liquid helium. A current is put through the coil and because there's (virtually) no resistance in the wire because of the temperarure, you've created a sustained magnetic field. That means that the only way to 'turn off' the field is by quenching the helium. If you do this, the coil will warp because of the sudden temperature difference. Repairing the scanner and replacing the helium would take days.

So, there's always a magnetic field in the scanner room and you can't just turn a scanner off and on in a few seconds.

That is just one mistake in the scene that I remember. There are some.more concerning the whole setup of the room, but for thag I'd have to rewatch it, which I'd rather not.

Hero dispatches enemies easily and they are unconscious. They are then absent for the rest of the movie and never wake up.

I hate when they make kids valuable sources of wisdom and knowledge. It's like whenever they can't afford Morgan Freeman they just get an 8 year old instead

One thing I’ll say is that I went to see Annihilation at Alamo Drafthouse and like they usually do, they had trailers and commercials and clips in some way related to the film about to be shown prior to it starting.

So at one pt they did a compilation of kick ass female action stars...one segment was Carano from Haywire. They showed about thirty second clip from the fight with Fassbender. It reminded me that that looked a lot more convincing than a lot of movie fights. Carano’s knowledge and abilities really made a big difference. You could see when she threw kicks they looked realistic cause she really pivoted the hips like you see in an mma fight- not just throwing up the leg with a sound effect of contact like in a lot of fictional fights.

Space.
Especially the depiction of sound.
There's no air to convey sound waves.
No pew pew whoosh.

I know, audiences are stupid and wouldn't understand.
"Why did everything go silent?
Why did the movie stop thinking for me?"

Agree 100%. Especially when they show the planet's as spheres , and not flat planes that form the back of a turtle. Fucking idiots.

I’m a therapist and I can’t say I’ve ever seen a therapist in TV or in movies that didn’t come across as totally incompetent and unethical which sucks because their depiction has most definitely influenced societal perception of therapists.

Any sex scene. A couple starts off staring at each other for about 15 seconds, faces an inch apart, kind of moving their mouths, and then they start making out. If you did that in real life, your gf would think you were weird and tell you to cut the shit (i jokingly pointed out how ludicrous those scenes are and reenacted it and exgf told me to cut the shit.) Then they have sex most of the night, get interrupted by a phone call, actually take the phone call, and then climb out of bed both wearing clothes.

Computer hacking. People can hack into the pentagon in less time than it takes me to log in to my email.

TBF you don't know that it isn't a permanent magnet 0.35T B-naught system. For all you know it could be a prepolarized system where the main field is cycled.
