That, and simply sport recognition.

If you went out and stood on a corner and asked 100 people who Donny Shankle is I'd be blown away if you got two people who said yes.

We, as a country, do not care about the sport and likely never will. Without support we cannot hope to thrive.

Till I joined this board I had no clue O-lifting even existed. Which is a shame because I've found it to be incredibly rewarding. When I finally got that 175 lb power snatch I was just completely ecstatic.

While I agree that our media makes people goo-ga over celebrities way too much to the point that it is retarded, our weightlifters aren't exactly winning world championships or even a factor in big international competitions.

Very true. I'd argue that the pay is the main problem.

Well that, and other countries have national athletic systems, while America has "pizza is a vegetable".

Uh, what ? I certainly missed that in the food pyramid. I guess no single thing can be blamed for the fall of US weightlifting.

You didn't hear about this?

The short story is there was recently a bill before congress aiming to improve school lunches - more vegetables, less french fries, that sort of thing. The FDA was of the opinion that in order for the tomato sauce on pizza to count as a vegetable serving, there actually needed to be a serving sized amount. Various companies, and their money, was of the opinion that a couple tables spoons of sauce was close enough.

Congress sided with money. So in the USA, pizza is a vegetable, because that's good for the economy and getting politicians re-elected. I mean, it's not like obesity is a problem in the USA, is it? It's all just like Hollywood, where all the fat people are successful comedians, and have inexplicable hot wives, who are always right.

Wow. That makes me really ashamed to be apart of this country.

Just vote correctly once you turn 18 and you'll be doing your part. That's the root of the problem IMO. Less than half of the eligible population votes in presidential elections, and even less in smaller ones.

I think voter education is paramount. Morons voting for morons isn't going to work regardless of how many punch the card.

^ Just on the topic of politics, am I the only one who finds attack ads mildly amusing ?

I don't watch TV so I have no clue what that means but the concept sounds horrible.

They are. I just saw one pretty much bashing Obama then at the end the narrator goes "Mr.Obama, it's time to attack problems, not people". Thus another reason why I only watch re-runs of old sitcoms.

Btw, Do you know where I can read up on push press technique ? After your small critique on slave's I realized mine potentially has tons of problems.

Except when they're stupid and irritating. I can enjoy the stupidity of attack ads for American elections involving people I've never heard of because the result won't really effect me.

Personally, I think the issue is with political parties, and "campaigning" and how their existence makes a country a continuing political battleground, in which even already elected politicians participate rather than govern. I'd like to see strict limitations on both.

Think hips. I remember seeing a video of your press a while back and you did a knee dip and then pushed off your calves, got like 4 inches of height off of the leg kick.

I remember that one.It was supposed to be a strict yet it turned into a push press. God that irritated me so much. My push press is a different. At least it feels different.

Would said "limitations" mean the end of attack ads ?

Unfortunately for your entertainment, yes. I don't even like the idea of any kind of political ad. Any political candidate that's worth anything should have their platform on their website (And it'll probably be printed in any decent newspaper), along with any other relevant information, and will take part in debates. Anything they've done that's noteworthy is a google search away.

I don't see campaigning much beyond that as resulting in people making better decisions when voting - maybe just more uninformed people voting.

Just watch Misha videos for the ideal push press form. An Oly coach I knew also told me to start the movement with your knees unlocked. Don't lock them and then unlock for the dip.

Why all the America hate?

Pizza is a fucking vegetable.

Maybe it's because you still have thanksgiving leftovers, while, as a Canadian, I've eaten all of mine long ago. I'll just have to eat my Chinese food leftovers with jealousy.

I am jelly. I've been eating thanksgiving left overs constantly.

I'll do both of those things. Thanks sobchak.

Cratos' super awesome pressing routine of doom !!!

Press Routine (sets x reps):

Cycle 1:

Day 1: 65% (4x6)

Day 2: 70% (4x4)

Day 3: 80% (7x2)

Day 4: 90% (4x1)

Cycle 2:

Day 1: 65% (4x7)

Day 2: 70% (5x4)

Day 3: 80% (5x3)

Day 4: 90% (5x1)

At end of Cycle 2, add 5 lbs to each set and repeat.

So I did 4x6 x 128 lbs today. I waited 5 seconds in between each rep. Otherwise today wouldn't have been worth it. At least in my mind.
