That was nuts, but imagine how credulous you have to be to believe that a major political party in America has antipathy toward white males--much less that it unifies around that. LOL!

It's just so crazy how far we've gotten from agreement on some notion of reality and standards by which we judge things.

It's long been American socialist tradition to most publicly oppose the liberals primarily to keep their feet to the fire, to advocate for the economic interests of wayward conservatives all the same, and let the liberals/Democrats deal with cherry picking from across the aisle. And, even as recently as 2015 that was still the status quo: liberals are the main target of criticism.

But, now in 2018, I've basically been reduced to a Democratic surrogate by the utter lunacy of people on the right. Like how could you possibly say that the Democrats have "incoherent" policies, when they're supported (comparably) by policy-interested professionals, i.e. economists, scientists, social scientists, consumer groups, etc. far, far more than the GOP, which is a self-proclaimed party of fiscal conservatism that has ballooned deficit and broken the budget with reckless cuts to revenue each of the party's last five terms in power.

I mean, fuck, we've gotten to the point where even historians are commenting on how unprincipled and irresponsible the GOP is.

Not enough what in NASA?

I chuckled.

What in the actual fuck? This dude is really running for Senate? Anyone from WV care to comment/defend this POS?

Man, that is some panties-ruining charisma right there.

Anyways, I hope this mother fucker dies. Look him up to see what a piece of shit he is. He represents everything that has damaged West Virginia.

In a choice between him and McConnell, I'd choose death.

On a less morbid note, I'd toss this into the pool for WR theme songs. It's got just the right amount of pep and attitude. Captures the spirit. Here or the OT perhaps. But this is fine art and too good for that morass.

If at work, start with speakers low. ;)

Reminded me of this song, classic

I forgot a massively overrated film: Star Wars (1977)

So my list sits at:

The Godfather, Part II
Star Wars (1977)
Pulp Fiction

Ok. Satire. Comedy translating to laughs? Big fail. Call it a flaw in marketing. Either way, the tension in Aliens got more laughs out of me than whatever Verhoeven was attempting. Let's call it a dry heat.

th
"Ever been confused for a man Vasquez?"

"No, have you?"

<bball2>
I will say that Alien>Aliens even though both are among the GOAT.

Calling the original Star Wars overrated is just that idiotic. That's not my fault, buddeh.
Now that you're an adult, try watching it from the beginning. Judge it honestly without letting nostalgia creep in. You'll see what I mean.

To me they're totally different experiences and not all that comparable. Both absolute classics, I agree.
They are very different but personally I like how the first film maintains a certain mystique around the xenomorph whereas the sequel kind of reduces it to cannon fodder to an extent. The introduction of the queen xenomorph in Aliens was excellent though.

Understandable. To me though I think it was a great decision to not essentially copy the original (which is what horror sequels tend to do). Did we need another slow moving film where one Alien stalked a ship's crew? Not really. I'm happy we got a great action flick.

Interestingly, when Scott was considering doing a sequel right after the success of the original, the idea was to make something like Prometheus. He felt that the story of the space jockey was the interesting direction to go. I totally agree and really enjoyed Prometheus. Not as much as Aliens though.

I think Waig's positions on film and politics generally suck, but he has a point about the original Star Wars films in general, insofar as they may not be bad but would almost have to be underrated because of how important the visuals and effects were to their original appeal.

With that said, IIRC, the first Star Wars movie had the least shitty plot of the entire first or second string of films.

I really just can't get through any of them, though. From what I've been told and what I can tell, Rogue One would be the on that I'd be most amenable to.

Yeah I agree that if you're going to follow up on a movie like Alien you can't just try to release a carbon copy and the addition of the queen xenomorphwas a great direction to go in and tells you so much about the species despite the fact that there was little exposition on the fact. That's what makes the Alien franchise so iconic, we learn so much form the creature just based off seeing its life cycle. No one tells us the nature of the xenomorph, we're shown its nature right before our eyes.

Here's an interesting video essay on the design of the creature

Giger is awesome. I picked up this set of tarot cards years ago.

Watched this new HBO documentary on Andre the Giant. Hulk Hogan said Andre almost crashed planes with his farts. Like the people flying the plane were made sick and couldn't breathe. lol. He also couldnt use an airplane bathroom obviously. So had to shit in a bucket on the plane and then somebody dumped it in the toilet. Rob Reiner who directed him during The Princess Bride said he never understood a single word he said the whole time working with him. lol. That role was made specifically for Andre too. The guy who wrote it had him in mind and demanded he play the role.

Vince McMahon said he could get people to believe anything about Andre. He told people he had 3 sets of teeth like Aliens. lol. People believed it. Ric Flair believed it. He believed Andre had two hearts too.

I feel bad for the people who weren't young/dumb enough to believe the shit Pro-Wrestling was slinging at the time.

I remember thinking "Parts Unknown" was actually some mystical place, where they got The Ultimate Warrior from.
