As pure crowd pleasing entertainment I would give it a 9.5 out of 10.

As pulp-art maybe a 6 out of 10.

The simple adoption of ideas, simple mythology, and very simple religious principles are relatable to almost anyone.

As high art... N.A. although legions of nerds have tried.

As something with philosophical depth... N.A. although legions of nerds have tried.

It is just supposed to be fun for everyone, that people turned it into something bigger is on them personally and the culture at large.

Yeah I'm not saying it's total trash, and I'll take your 6/10 rating. But it's often hailed as one of the top 10 films of all time. It beats Chinatown on many lists, for God's sake.

I think maybe Lucas couldn't figure out if he wanted to make something serious or something funny. I rewatched it about a year ago and it was way worse than I remembered. Hadn't seen it since the 90s. The plot is simplistic, many of the key characters are absurd (e.g. Vader's helmet is way too big for me to take seriously) and yet suggest laziness (C3P0 looks too much like the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz, Chewbacca...is that the best they could think of?). That would be fine if they were just going for the comedic angle (similar to Spaceballs), but there's a lot of serious stuff mixed in there. The film gets its wires crossed and I'm not really sure what it was supposed to accomplish.

I can respect that, and if one does not suspend disbelief, things are going to be a drag.

Watched this new HBO documentary on Andre the Giant. Hulk Hogan said Andre almost crashed planes with his farts. Like the people flying the plane were made sick and couldn't breathe. lol. He also couldnt use an airplane bathroom obviously. So had to shit in a bucket on the plane and then somebody dumped it in the toilet. Rob Reiner who directed him during The Princess Bride said he never understood a single word he said the whole time working with him. lol. That role was made specifically for Andre too. The guy who wrote it had him in mind and demanded he play the role.

Vince McMahon said he could get people to believe anything about Andre. He told people he had 3 sets of teeth like Aliens. lol. People believed it. Ric Flair believed it. He believed Andre had two hearts too.
