Economy The [Wall / Government Shutdown] Megathread

Would you approve of Trump using emergency powers to build his wall?

That's cute and all but the end result is you took an L.

And I hope they do the same thing that Trotski is doing so they can take ANOTHER "L".

Hope Trotski keeps it up. Looking forward to 6 more years. <Moves>

He doesn't have to be any good. His opponent just has to be worse.

Need evidence?

2016

Thing is, back then, Trump was elected because he wasn't Hillary.

This time around, Trump will be re-elected because he's shown that he TRIES and isn't full of the usual Lip-Service that career Politicians that have held the Presidency have always been. He's unique in that respect.

concession noted

lol. Concession, my ass.

Stating a Fact that liberals can't stand, isn't a concession but you are free to think so if that helps you sleep at night. o_O

So he gets points for trying?

So why did he not do much of that trying for the past two years? When if he had tried harder then his standard half-hearted attempt and give up, he'd likely have gotten things done. And his current trying involves rewriting history to try and walk back what he originally promised.

But hey president deserve partcipation awards too I guess.

When arguing about his abilities as a president, asserting that he is the president is just trying to dodge the subject.

Yes he is president. A bad president.

Yeah.

Draining the Swamp was always a pipe-dream.

There's ALWAYS going to be corruption in our government no matter what.

It sucks but that's the way shit is.

I do think that we need more barriers at the border though. I would still prefer that but not *only* that.

I want those barriers to be supplemented by other types of Border Security like Technology and better training for Border Patrol agents.

Hell...I like the Steel Slats idea and would like for them to be installed where we currently have barriers located(mainly to re-inforce them) and in critical areas where barriers are needed.
I think the steel slats, or bollard fence, is what we already have in places. Trump should show that there's a need for it by using the billion plus dollars he already has access to. Once it's used up we can see how he spent it and maybe authorize more funds. His pitch of a great big beautiful wall with his name on it was as much of a pipe dream as draining the swamp though.

If we do have Steel Slats, I haven't seen it shown on TV anywhere.

I want a barrier that groups of illegal immigrant FILTH(yes, that's what they are to me if they don't go to the Ports of Entry) won't be able to push down due to their collective numbers.

This is why STEEL Slats are needed and not anything less than that. You say we already have that but I haven't seen this. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place?

Yep. Just like Pelosi is YOUR Speaker of the House.

hi glenwo2,

i'll give you that, partially.

in the end, by triggering the shutdown, i agree that Mr. Trump steeled himself to the task (after being eviscerated by the Freedom Caucus and Ann Coulter).

with no obvious legislative path to victory and an implacable opponent in Mrs. Pelosi, President Trump just yolo'd ahead anyway.

that takes balls. there are probably a legion of Democrats who would have been very happy if President Obama had shutdown the government over the Merrick Garland nomination.

the thing is, Mr. Trump also revealed other things;

1) that neither he nor his proxy, Mr. Kushner, have any actual dealmaking aptitude.

2) that Mr. Trump is willing to commit to a no-win situation in order to please a very small minority in congress, the Freedom Caucus.

Pussy ass president. All talk. No follow through.

hi Foots!

not really a pussy ass - just not much of a tactician.

in january 2018, he had his chance and he should have taken it. 25 billion of wall money for DACA protections.

that was his moment and he blew it.

i'll give him credit for having the stones to declare that he was going to shut the government down, though, and then he did it. it was a little like driving a car off a cliff.

that takes gumption.
