Economy The [Wall / Government Shutdown] Megathread

Would you approve of Trump using emergency powers to build his wall?

  • Total voters

  • Poll closed .
In a couple of days, Trump will enact emergency powers, reopen gov't. Seems pretty obvious now that this is where he was heading.

GOP Senate is at the breaking point.

They may override his veto

This poll shows what a left wing liberal cess pool this forum is.

In other news, for the 3rd time democratic members of the house of reps have voted against a bill that would pay federal workers despite shutdown. This after their awesome vacation in puerto rico.

reality is a liberal cesspool

hi cincymma79,

if consumer spending suddenly experiences a precipitous decline, nothing happens?

if demand decreases, nothing happens?

i think you're incorrect, but good talking to you my friend!

He'll make the deal and reopen gov't, I bet. Either that, or he'll agree to some lesser figure when a counter is offered.

How do emergency powers allow Trump to "reopen the government"?

Thats not what I'm saying. Im saying he'll enact emergency powers (declare the border an emergency for military funding) as he reopens the gov't. He'll act like he's ending the shutdown for the people but being forced to call an emergency because of those horrible liberals.

Libs will wish they had accepted that amnesty deal.

No wall funding

Dems have offered other funding for border security but they won't give him any wall funding.

Like I said the Senate GOP is cracking. 6 of them voted with the Dems today and more will follow

hi Natty Dread,

most of the proposals in the House and any embryonic efforts in the Senate, are mostly theater, my friend.

its grist for the mill when campaigns need material for their ads in 2020.

"so and so voted against our farmers..."

"so and so voted against starving Federal workers..."

"so and so voted against our security by not paying to keep TSA workers at their posts..."

etc, etc, etc...

the fact is, nothing that's voted on or not voted amounts to much, as long as President Trump keeps saying he's going to veto anything that doesn't give him what he wants - which is this;

money for his wall, and no deal on DACA.

to achieve this, he has to pretend that the GOP achieved a sweeping victory in the mid terms, and he's received a mandate from the American people to go full steam ahead.

the Democrats, for reasons best known to them, are not playing along.

hi cincymma79,

i'm not talking about you, though.

you'll be fine. i have my own money and my inheritance - i'll be fine. we'll both be fine.

now that we've established that, what happens to the US economy when the rest of the country experiences a fervent bout of thrift, and starts saving, saving, saving, as opposed to fueling the economy?

we both know what happens, lol.

its a conundrum, for sure.

his attempt to make a deal was pathetic. dunno why people still think he is good at that.

We'll have to see what he ends up with, I suppose.

hi Seano,

it would be one thing if he hadn't of made the declaration that this was his shutdown.
it would be one thing if he had overwhelming support from the American people for his wall.
it would be one thing if he hadn't of unilaterally moved to strike down the DACA protections, only to have the courts reject him.
it would be one thing if former House speaker Mr. Ryan and Mitch McConnell would awaken from their slumber and back him.
it would be one thing if he had even a semblance of a working relationship with Mrs. Pelosi.
it would be one thing if he had the votes, lol. it would be everything if he had the votes.

all the breaks have gone against him - and its very hard to broker a deal Americans (meaning the Freedom caucus) can live with - when Mr. Trump has no actual leverage.

the POTUS has no cards. he can make a deal, he just can't make the deal that Ann Coulter demands he make.

The House and Senate passed bills that would have kept the government open. Trump refused to sign it. Now, shut your pie hole.
