Economy The [Wall / Government Shutdown] Megathread

Would you approve of Trump using emergency powers to build his wall?

The wall. McCain didnt get a chance to oppose it before he died

So u admit he would have? And flake? I could go do some googling to find their statements about the wall...or we can just agree they were against it

Everything. When you are a minority, you will not be treated as well as minorities are being treated now.
What are you afraid will happen to white people, and how does a few miles of emergency wall prevent it from happening?

No, it's never everyone but the presidents fault. If he had a real plan, there would be a wall. If he had compromised woth the dems, there would be a wall.

As every lefty is screaming from the rooftop, the president cannot bypass congress...so his will alone is not enough.
Maybe be did blow it back when they had 25 bill on the table but I'd have to go back and look at the details

If Trump used emergency powers to take money for the wall from the Military Budget, yes. But from the Disaster Relief money already allocated, NO.

anyone else have problems with quoting and replying?

Who wants a disarmed population? Who wants speech shut down? Who wants larger govt? Who wants more of people's income extorted? ...

I don't think you're understanding his point. If Trump had a real plan to implement the wall, he would have been able to get funding for it while the GOP controlled Congress. Just like other presidents have done for countless policy positions.

Then, even without a plan, had he been willing to compromise he could have got it done that way. Again, just like other presidents have done in other issue.

But he didn't have a plan and wasn't willing to compromise. That is on him. He can't execute his campaign goals, other presidents have.

Gone soon, RIP Byron. Sound wall advice as well btw.

Man I can't wait for this wall to be built.

Trump should make worker concentration camps on 3-6 month rotations for anyone who voted for Hillary to come physically work on the wall. That would be awesome and would teach leftists like @Rational Poster and @KONG-D'SNT-TAP a good lesson.
It won't make it more difficult just more profitable for people selling safe passage the same way all the drugs get over here

I don’t support using emergency powers for a non-emergency. That’s a slippery slope we don’t want none of.

I'm sure Chuck and Nancy saw that clip of Trump at the border where a border guard was telling the camera what had happened earlier that day, or the day before.
He mentioned they detained a very large number of people trying to get over the border which contained people from many countries, not just Central America.
Some of these people were from India, Pakistan & Romania! Unfortunately there were quite a number of others that got away from the border guards too. All that was just ONE day!

I don't understand why the Democrats can't see this as a huge problem for the country? How is it NOT a crisis? People from many countries around the world are trying to get into America illegally.
The fact that the Dems don't give a shit and are ignoring the stats and what this border guard related, really shows why they don't want a wall.
1/ They don't want Trump to 'win.'[at anything.]
2/They know walls work, the wall would stem the flow of potential future Democrat voters who aren't in the country yet, or reduce the number of them to a trickle.

It is obvious that a barrier is needed, yet Chuck & Nancy choose to ignore what border officials have to say. These two only care for the Democrat Party, that's all, and they are consumed with hatred for Trump.

No serious person has ever taken the wall seriously (can anyone even define what "the wall" entails), it was always bullshit, which is why it took General Kelly about 2 seconds to cast the idea aside when he took over homeland security, and why almost nobody in the GOP house or GOP senate took it seriously, let alone advocated for it in the two years that they controlled the entire federal government.

LOL at people who thought Mexico would pay for it....now Trump is dropping the price he wants from Dems from 5 billion to 2 billion, like it's one of his condos where someone was murdered. Sam Nunberg explained where the idea of "building the wall" came from (spoiler alert, it didn't come from national security experts):

"Sam Nunberg told the New York Times getting Trump to talk about building a wall was the easiest way to get him to discuss immigration on the campaign trail.

Nunberg who advised Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign and was later subpoenaed by special counsel Robert Mueller as part of his investigation of the Russia probe, cited a conversation with fellow advisor Roger J. Stone Jr.

"How do we get him to continue to talk about immigration?" Nunberg said. "We're going to get him to talk about [sic] he's going to build a wall."

What was meant to serve initially as a way to encourage Trump to talk about immigration now sits at the center of the current partial government shutdown. All the while, the rhetoric around how or what exactly will be built has continued to change.

Outgoing White House chief of staff John Kelly said the addition to the southern US border wouldn't even actually be a wall.

the most important thing is that the Repub's are trying to change what 'The Wall' is and meant to Trump and his supporters and they are trying to reframe the argument as those against Trump's Wall being against an integrated Border Security plan that involves increased fencing, drones, people, technology and other.

Dems and others were always for the latter and in fact gave Trump a bipartisan $25B budget to get at it. Trump said no to that. He also has ~$1.5B in pre allocated Fence funding sitting for a year he won't deploy even in that so called Emergency time. How can you have an Emergency and be sitting on $1.5B and yet say I need $5B right away because of the emergency??

The answer is because Trumps Wall had nothing to do with fencing so he was not going to waste or spend the already allocated $1.5B on a fence when his Wall was going to replace all fencing.

This was Trumps wall

And it was to replace the fences. And it was to be paid for by Mexico with one big check. And when Mexico said no Trump said we have all the leverage and will make them pay by withholding remittances and other things. The voters were going to see the true Art of the Deal and Trumps lauded negotiation skills as he easily broke and forced Mexico to pay for it.

Trump is like a child screaming in a grocery store. Giving in to his tantrum will make him worse not better.
One congress person suggested if cocksucker McConnell would let there be a vote, they'd have enough votes to override a veto. There has to be a way to remove a piece of shit Mitch from the leadership position.

Dude with seemingly no formal education who lives in the middle of nowhere, trying to tell a guy with a public policy degree to shut up about politics on a political messageboard.
</American vignette>

Typical libtard claiming people have no education.

Let's pretend the wall was magically funded, do we have a time line in which this thing would be built?

Everything. When you are a minority, you will not be treated as well as minorities are being treated now.

Never been to a non white country have you. Its not some kind of anti white hell
