Economy The [Wall / Government Shutdown] Megathread

Would you approve of Trump using emergency powers to build his wall?

  • Total voters
    92
  • Poll closed .
Was he trying to introduce the death penalty for drugs...?

Make up your mind,

Do you have a lot of money or you don't have a lot of money?

The house will pass a resolution to stop this and force the senate to vote on it. Let's see how many republicans want to go on record supporting a major overreach like this. There will be a dem president again, is this the precedent they want to set?

He's already got that part figured out

Whatever negative things you can say about Trump, he has shown to be excellent at running an election campaign
Particularly when you never stop campaigning even after the election is over instead of actually running the country.

He'll need to actually start a wall to finish one. He has not.

That's giving the GOP too much credit. They don't think that far ahead. I mean they bitched for 7+ years about the ACA and never thought about how to make good on their bs when they got power. They obstructed Obama for 8 years, never considering they would lose their control of one of the chambers of Congress.

They don't consider consequences of their actions.

Ha. You act like hard facts matter

There are areas of the slat wall that were put in place to replace older fencing along the border in the highest traffic areas. He'll have clips of that on loop and that he needs 4 more years to span the whole 1900 mile border. Trumpian base will eat it up.

Court system will be the check on this. Court mandated stay on any construction work or land seizure until a formal ruling will be the first move I would wager
And then there are all the battles over eminent domain etc as well, sure, but the very fact this has happened sets the precedent. In a similar way to "Impeach the motherfucker" doesn't seem like such a horrid statement after "grab em by the pussy", the next time there will be yet a further little erosion of them and the next a little more and so on, hence the slippery slope:
Well, it took a little longer than I expected, but I hope it is finally becoming apparent just how much long term damage electing Trump is going to do to the US. Enjoy that total erosion of the democratic process, folks. Talk about your slippery slopes. Of all the ones righties claim to be afraid of, it's amazing they can totally ignore this one as long as it suits them.

Sadly I think you're right.

I think we're past the point of being able to shout socialism and expecting people to run away in terror. In eliminating social safety nets in America by demonizing them as socialist we've created a disaffected class of people that now want socialism because they've got nothing left to lose.

We shall see. {<shrug}

I don't think the American Public (The Majority) wants Socialism to replace Capitalism here.

The "disaffected class of people" who want socialism will still be far less than the many who don't, imo.

Count on this to be one of the Main Campaign issues brought up(and it's a big one).

Yes, it seems as though Trump has seen that opposition to him is mounting among Senate Republicans and this is his way of whipping up support to counter them.

Lol he's talking about drugs on the conference Pandering to the low iq base

What do they do when the wall hits the pacific/gulf? Those folks down south will just swim around it!

I just heard Trump say on TV that his executive action will be sued by the 9th circuit.

What am I missing here?

@glenwo2 ? I got lit up yesterday for saying this.

That the liberal dimwits in this thread have gone full retard?

What are you talking about? Congress gave POTUS power to do this under National Emergencies Act. POTUS declaring National Emergencies is not a new thing. A lot of you just don't like it because it is President Trump.

He got 1.4 billion for border security including fencing. Is a fence a wall now?

According to the Dems, it is.

Since they're so fucking offended by a single word "wall". <LikeReally5>
