While I agree there is always a level of manipulation of the masses in politics, I would much rather have his in your face behavior, calling out the people who need to be called out than this silent attack on our rights, such as Obama cares 7 billion pages of bullshit they slipped through without a fight.

I'm aware he has the tendency to do shit that makes me cringe. Hell I don't know how his chief of staffs haven't rotated in and out every other week. But Godamnit it's what I like about him in the long run.

I'm also totally on board with the Rock running for president. More for his presence than any kind of crazy great campaign promise he might have. So there is that.

That's the thing:
Donald Trump and his admin might be making a fool of the American people in an overt way, and making governance a near impossibility, but they're also fucking American up in covert ways as well. Trump has ran the Bush playbook on appointees across the board, appointing corporate polluters and oil men to environmental regulatory positions, bankers to financial protection services, and anti public education people into public educational positions.

You seem to be arguing for being fucked in the mouth and ass, instead of just the ass.

I like how people keep saying this, yet we make massive, record breaking drug busts at the border with regularity. We spend twice the amount needed to build a barrier on illegal immigrants each year. 100's die each year just making the attempt to cross the border. Wages stagnate because of our shitty border enforcement. Human trafficking is far from an uncommon occurrence.

What do we really gain by not having a better physical barrier?Nothing.

We already have a barrier at much of out border. The idea is just a better one. I really don't see the down side.

Some of you will just never understand Trump. He probably was saying that he didn't need to do this because Congress should have given him adequate funding for border security including enough for a wall/barrier/fence...but since they won't he is now declaring the emergency.

Or he probably said it because he can't stick to the script. "Yeah, I'll proudly own the shutdown! Firing Comey relieved great pressure. When I fired him I thought about the phony Russia investigation." Etc...

Trump is dangerous. Flat out. He asks his supporters for devotion if not flat out worship and he gets it.

Its as close to 'Dear Leader' type worship status as we have seen in the West.

He tells them to not believe what they see or hear and only to believe what he tells them and they do. Earlier today I posted a thread where Trump claims to be 6'3" and his doctor lies for him saying he is. We can clearly show via evidence via others known to be 6'3" (Jeb Bush, etc) that he has stood with that he is not. He is about 6'1". Nothing wrong with that height but with all things Trump you have to lie and boost everything up.

In that thread I had Trumptards (and one aggressively so) saying 'what we see with Trump beside Jeb Bush and others does not matter. Trump says he is 6'3" and why would he lie. they are ignoring what they see. They don't care what the truth is. they just blindly accept what Trump says.

that is not good. No one should be so blindly devoted to any politician. that what leads people to say Dear Leader does not poop and to believe it.

Despite all the Russians convictions and guilty pleas in his campaign Trump can say to true believers 'the FBI, CIA, Homeland Security and NSA are all wrong and need to go back to school', and they will buy that. All of them must be wrong because Trump cannot be.

That is dangerously stupid and needs to be called out.

I still don't like this for the brutal over reach of power and bypassing checks and balance: but AP article on it has a silver lining

2.5 Billion is coming from defense department counter drug money
3.6 Billion from money for military construction projects
So the source of the funding is at least accurate

Having the wall funded from a slice of the massively bloated defense portion of the budget (without increasing that portion) has always ever been the only way I was ok with the idea of Trump's wall. All that money isn't doing us much good anyway and is just a waste, at least using some for a border wall will have some slight positive effect for Americans

The wall will have a negligible impact. That money could be better used on infrastructure, disaster relief, or even social programs.

I would agree with any military money being directed to the Wall. Its a lesser of two wastefuls.

That said people should not be fooled by Trumps call for $5.5B. The total estimates for Trumps wall are something like $70B.

So if he got the $5.5B and put in the wall he would immediately demand the balance and point at the unfinished wall saying 'the Dems just made us waste $5.5B if they won't let us complete the wall. What good is an incomplete wall.' And the next battle would be engaged.

So better to keep the battle lines here.

What a fucking mess the most powerful human on Earth is. He is flailing whilst blathering pure nonsense, merely to muddy the waters. In a pure political stunt, he has set a dangerous precedent, especially if he somehow succeeded in years time.
