Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

Crazy Voyageur is getting upscale attention from CBS, figured DS9 would get it first after that popular docu. I'm currently rewatching DS9. I got Netflix for my mom and started watching there, but it looks terrible.

I use a site called fmovies often (you need an adblocker and pop-up blocker). They are offering DS9 at 1080p. Being able to select 1080p baffled me, but the clarity over Netflix is stunning.

I found out that there are large torrents out there of DS9 being upscaled by different people/groups. Fmovies must be using one of them. I dl'd every season (about 12 gigs each) from what's considered the best upscale. It looks so damn good compared to my dvd's or Netflix (garbage).

Check out the screenshots, I can't believe CBS isn't taking of advantage of this.

I'm pretty sure this is the guy who did this; you can see him discussing his methods on Reddit

It's not being upscale by CBS, it's being done by the documentary production team, with CBS blessing. Only certain clips will be upgraded, just like the DS9 doc. I think if CBS gave DS9 and VOY the HD treatment, they should make it a Paramount plus exclusive. I know I would be a yearly subscriber if they offered that. I have a friend who is currently working on using his custom $ 15,000 Machine learning PC to up scale DS9 to HD. Im part of his testing group, and the results so far are amazing.

What a cocktease then, just like the DS9 docu.

For now I'm really happy with the fan full series upscale already done. It's very similar, looks wise, to how Babylon 5 was fan upscaled. I find that Babylon 5 upscale superior to what was officially done.

Well CBS went all out on the TNG blu rays, and spent a shit load doing them. They came out right when Physical media sales tanked, and they were trying to sell them for a hundred bucks a season. TNG blu rays set the standard, transfers from the original film, all new special effects, and enhancements, full of special features and documentaries.

I love the Blu rays and all the bonus content, but I would be more than happy if they just rescanned DS9 and VOY and produce it in HD, and redo special effects when needed. Both those shows had a lot of CGI that hasn't aged very well, so they really need attention. That said CBS have released statements about the documentaries and how impressed they were with the fundraising, so It has to be in discussion to Upscale them.

I watched the remasters of TNG on Netflix, and they looked stunning. A real shame the sets tanked, but that's sadly the way things have gone.

One day left to donate for your perks. They shot past $1,000,000 and are only $12k away from setting an all time record for a documentary!

The early season in perticular you can see some pretty janky looking sets, and some really bad make up. Marina Sirtis looks like see has clown make up on in season 1, let alone her over the top acting, where she either orgasims or shudders in pain, everytime she sense an emotion. Highly recommend picking up the blu rays just for the behind the scenes content on how they made the Blu rays

When me and my sister did our Trek marathon, I remember randomly remarking on how cheap some of the sets looked. DS9, I think. Been spoiled by shows now that basically get movie budgets, as opposed to running their final seasons on a shoestring and recasting their lead with Barry Van Dyke.

Paramount was hesitant to spend big money on TNG initially, because it wasn't going to be a network show. First run syndication was a huge risk for them at the time.

Tomorrow is first contact day, and CBS has announced that going forward it will be an official event every year. Sounds like there might be some big announcements tomorrow

Lower decks will premiere in August. Season 4 of Discovery will be in late 2021. Plan is for Picard season 2 to air following in early 2022 following DSC, then SNW will air following Picard. Prodigy will also be airinv either late 2021 or early 2022.

Going forward they hope to have on new Star Trek year round.

Looking forward more to DSC than Picard at this point.

SNW I am not even getting my hopes up. It might be what we want. But the Picard letdown has been too brutal for me to commit.
