Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

Captain Worf incoming?

In the Picard novel that is Canon, when Star Fleet asked Picard to take on the Romulan relocation and be promoted to admiral, one of his requests was that Worf be given command of the Enterprise E.

And you just KNOW with today’s ‘wokeness’ everywhere in Hollywood, Worf is probably gonna be cast as a black guy. Buncha bullshit

The question I have is whether we’re going to get TNG jobber Worf or are we going to get DS9 P4P #1 undisputed HW champion of the galaxy Worf?

Looks like the Worf thing, might not be for TV. People are saying it's likely for a Star Trek mobile game.

Picard started super promising.

Not sure if it is wrong. But I did like the latest DSC season more than episodes 3-8 of Picard.

Could never get over that it was another prequel after Enterprise,
the Klingons don't match, it is woke and there's a girl named Michael.

But I plan to watch some day as a ST fan and maybe I'll be surprised.

Is it wrong if I find Picard better than Discovery ?
Picard has some really strong episodes and is gorgeous looking. Eager to see what happens in season and how the writers adapt.

Discovery has gotten consistently better through its run. It started off as kinda a mess story wise, but the production values have always been stellar. The Producers and writers listen to the fans, and monitor the internet and social media, and they have made adjustments.

People tend to forget the first few seasons of most Trek series, are not great as a whole. TNG would have never survived Encounter at farpoint, in the internet era, it would have faced too many old TOS fans whining that this wasn't their Star Trek. I always try to keep that perspective

I just remembered I printed out the Ferengi Rules of Aquisition,
on my desk job 10 years ago, and hung the 5 page list on the wall.

Also hung this on the presentation meeting board on October 21 2015

Strange New Worlds is the one series I have hopes for. That, and Disco S4 to a lesser extent.

The kids series might be good, I will have to check it out. But I actually want my kid to want to be a member of Starfleet, be interested in science and technology, be curious and open-minded - not sure this alien consortium will do the trick.

Just read that they already have 5 episodes of Strange New Worlds in the can.

As the Great bird of the galaxy, his hope with Star Trek was to make a future, for humanity to Strive for. "In the 24th century there will be no hunger, there will be no greed, and all the children will know how to read"

Did not know this:

According to Wheaton's post, he was cast in 1989's Valmont, and needed to be written out of a single Next Generation episode to accommodate the movie shoot in France. Wheaton believes that the arrangement would've been no problem were Gene Roddenberry still alive, but under the new leadership, he was told that the episode was pivotal to Wesley, and simply couldn't happen without his involvement, causing the actor to turn Valmont down. Returning to work on Star Trek, Wheaton discovered he had been lied to, and written out of the episode he requested leave from. This deception is credited as the cause of his The Next Generation exit.

It's like they treated Discovery as a bit of a bridge between the Star Trek movie reboots and the real thing. Klingons don't match.... at first. But then they do. And sure, it's woke, but it's all just matter of fact which is the way to do it, rather than feeling like you're being beaten over the head with ideas. Yes, you've probably read about a trans character that wants to be referred to as "they" but "they" are also a Trill, so you get to look at that any way you want.

Honestly I went in super skeptical and ended up loving the first two seasons. The third season is more of a curiosity at this point as it's basically a remake of Rodenberry's Andromeda.

Picard was good until he became a robot. They lost me there. May not even bother with Season 2.

This video is not available. Geoblocked maybe? What's it for? Might be another version out there.

Edit - ah, Picard S2. Q!

This vid currently works for me:

De Lancie was memorable on Days of Our Lives. He was suggested to play Q by, you guessed it, Leonard Maizlish.

The leadership behind Star Trek was deficient at times. Perhaps this was a reflection of Roddenberry himself. He was an unequivocal visionary, but not a leader that one should aspire to become.

Wheaton thought that he was going to be a big movie star.

In a way, that is understandable after Stand By Me.
Wheaton actually never wanted to be an actor. Turns out his mom was trying to live vicariously through him, for her failed acting career. Star Trek was one of the roles he really wanted because he loved it. His agents didn't want him to do it, because it could affect his movie career. As soon as he was old enough he left Hollywood for a while and got a normal job. He tried to come back to acting since it was all he knew, and his parents had lost most of his money. He lived pretty much hand to mount for much of his 20s and 30s until he started finding success as a writer and host.
