Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense? Does a table have dozens of facial muscles?
No, but he can already do the facial movements in a humanoid form. The only thing he is missing is the ability to duplicate the detail, and yet he can already do that with a variety of other objects. It was always a contradiction.

How is that anything new? Star Trek has always had a sense of humor, dating back to the original series. Even Next Gen, for all its diplomacy and idealism and important speeches, had a lot of funny moments.

The point is, fun doesn't have to come at the expense of quality writing.

Sure there are bits of humor thrown into various trek episodes, but there has never been a comedic episode. All I'm saying is they are presenting it in a new and interesting way.

The explanation was that he was a younger changeling and not that adept with the ability yet.

They should've had him develop the skill to properly mimic humanoids over the series.
That's why he rejoined the collective. He knew he was incomplete.

Did you ever read the Obrien Web Comics, Chief O'Brien at work? I loved it.

They poke fun at this on DS9. They also make fun of how they could never keep the holodecks running properly on the Enterprise.

My wife and I are watching TNG from start to finish again. We’re loving it. Still not as good as DS9 though.

with all the horrible s*** that's happened with holodeck technology throughout the show you got to wonder why they never just made it illegal

Ok I also most spit out my coffee this morning when I saw this

Lets be honest here if Gene had stayed on as show runner Crusher and Tasha/Troi would probably have ended up as a couple, full betazoid wedding most likely.

We need a poll

Mr. Homn vs. Maihar’du

Both are giant. Both were servants of alien aristocrats. Who’s better in a fight? Who’s the better servant? Go.

After season 1, Gene was pretty far gone mentally. Ira Steven Behr talked about how when he wrote the episodes where Picard goes on Vacation to Risa, he was Called into Gene's office, and Gene basically demanded they recreate Caligula with the episode. Rick Berman then had to tell him, to forget everything he was just told in the meeting.

CBS has decided to air season one of Discovery on Thursday, September 24 at 10PM ET/PT.
It will air weekly on Thursdays this fall. CBS will be tapping into its all access programing, to help fill its schedule, due to the lack of new content being available due to the pandemic.

One inconsistency that really bugged me about DS9 was that Odo didn't have the shapeshifting skills to mimic a person, but he could turn into a table, a chair, a mist, or anything else you could imagine. He just couldn't swing becoming a person. It made no sense.

The explanation was that he was a younger changeling and not that adept with the ability yet.

They should've had him develop the skill to properly mimic humanoids over the series.

If we're aiming at Odo, what stood out to me was : If Odo copied the hairstyle of Bajoran Dr Mora, than why do all changelings have this haircut.

That was another inconsistency, probably because it was overlooked by later writers.

So Strange New Worlds could be victim of Covid, I am afraid? Talking out of my ass here, of course.

IMO It's a victim of Kurtzman-Trek not making any money and nobody being willing to pay for production of a new series.

That Section 31 series was supposed to start filming when STD season 3 wrapped, but there was no movement on it at all even pre-COVID shutdown.
All the post TOS series were hated by "fans" when they initially came out, and most were pretty rough for there first few season. Sorta like people who bitch about DSC, Picard, Lower decks....

Maybe give the show a chance before condemning them. TNG never would have made it past season 1, if the internet and social media existed back then.

Well, to be fair, people didn't like TNG early on because the show was legitimately terrible. Encounter at Farpoint is objectively bad television. There were also issues because of the screenwriters strike in season 2.

When Maurice Hurley got booted as show runner, the quality of the show increased markedly, and it became a pop culture phenomenon.

Kurtzman Trek is getting worse with each new season and series and has deviated from a ton of establishment norms of the franchise.

Yeah man, I keep hearing comparisons to early rough TNG to give STD a pass.

The big difference is that S1 of STD is their best, and it got worse each season, unlike TNG.

Kurtzman is such a freaking hack. Learning about secret hideout and bad robot, they are a parasite on the franchise, but clearly smart businessmen

I hear lower decksnis getting better, though I never got past episode 1

To say any movie or TV is objectively bad/good is to say there's something wrong with anyone who likes/dislikes it. For if anything like that is objectively bad, then everyone in their right mind should dislike it.
