Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

You know I've been watching shows on my second computer while I'm working from home

Shows that I never want to watch on my own time haha

Maybe I'll take this opportunity to watch discovery so I can properly discuss it
I refuse to do it. I already know it's garbage based on what I have seen and heard from trusted sources. I don't want to contribute to the ratings of the show and would rather just pretend it does not exist.

Ok you talked me out of it lol

Canon “enhancements”

Well there is stuff which can be regarded as actual contribution to existing canon, but there are also unfortunate elements like the spore drive, which - at least - they implicitly acknowledge was a truly bad idea and which now effectively will be gone from the series.

Just watch Red Letter Media’s YouTube videos for all things Star Trek. You’ll basically learn enough about what you’ve been missing so you won’t feel like you’re not in the know, and you’ll be entertained since their reviews are better than the shows.

I already watched them all

Love those guys

That show was grossly overrated. It wasn't very good sci fi and wasn't very good satire either.

I think there is a lot more potential in a Galaxy quest TV series that fully commits to satire.

It was a fun little show.

I did watch all of picard and it was atrocious

I never gave discovery the time of day

But that's the difference

You have to go out of your way to cite bad episodes of the original shows

They were few and far between

This new content you have to go out of your way to find a half decent episode

Did they really make Picard a bitch? Is the show SJW nonsense with a Star Trek paint job?

Just watched Lower Decks, and was plesently surprised. It is not Rick and Morty in space. It has the feel of classic TNG, but the emphasis the random background stuff that happens to operate a ship in a comedic way. The animation looks fantastic, and you can tell they are going to do some stuff that could never be shown back in the day, without blowing there entire season budget.

Watched a few reviews from people who have seen the first 4 episodes, and they say they are really impressed. They say the character development in the upcoming episodes are great, and you actually start to care about the characters, as opposed to say Burnham, who pretty much everyone hated.

Give it a chance fellas. There's all sorts of free month promo codes out for CBS all access

So it's the Orville

@JDragon The lower decks show runner announced that international release has been delayed to the fact, that lower decks was suppose to premiere in late Oct, but was bumped up due to DSC being delayed due to covid. So the European distributors and CBS couldn't figure out a deal in time, and are do not want to give away rights to more than 1 season due to CBS all access launching internationally soon.

If it had truly been "Rick and Morty" in space, that would imply that the writing was clever and good. There is no way the people behind neo-Trek could write that well.
