Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

Strange new worlds, will be more like classic TOS episodes and will mostly be episodic in nature, rather than season long serialized stories, according to Akiva Goldsmith the executive producer.

Just finished the season a few days ago and I didn't like it, in fact if not for RLM I would have dropped it a long time ago.
I'll have fun watching this :D unlike this show, I'm not the biggest Star Trek guy but what a stinker even STD had a decent first season this had nothing to look forward I was dreading the next episode each time lol.

That would do a lot to bring me back in

I do think what your really dealing with here and with Starwars isn't "this is what sells now" so much as a lot of not very talented people at the top(bar Garth Edwards and some of those in the Mandorian) who don't care a lot about the properties there involved with. Abrams early success allowed them to dominate these franchises but now I think its clear nepotism is keeping them around even though its so obvious there slowly killing interest in said franchises.

This isn't just overexposure, Marvel was putting out multiple films a year and wasn't overexposed because they actually gave a fuck about hiring talented people to make them who gave a dam.

The only way these franchises can be saved is getting these hacks out and probably the execs who back them as well.

The video from 1:29:42 onward pretty much encompasses all the reasons why new trek is bad and old trek is good

He does hint at it with demands for viewing figures, not sure about "bots" as you'll never lack for some people praising pretty much anything on the net.

Again though I suspect this isn't really about financial success, its about a culture of execs and directors/producers/writters that's built up in these franchises all trying to protect each others jobs trying to cling on even as its clear interests in the franchise is diminishing. They had an early burst of success with Abrams first films with previously starved fanbases and there using this to cling onto their roles when its clearly been shown they don't have the ability to sustain the franchises.

It could have been possible to make a more cynical darker show that might not have been so obviously Trek but did have some quality to it but these people don't have the ability to do anything close to that, there hacks running from failed movie careers.

With all these new series coming, is it too much to ask to have one
that has that classic DS9 or Voyager vibe ?

Star Trek has always dealt in stories about interspecies and cross-cultural interactions, and the way each franchise tells these stories is a commentary on the era that produced them. Star Trek: Picard is no exception.

In 2020, representation and inclusion have just as much, if not more, importance than diversity. Claiming to be an an ally to marginalized people without acknowledging your own privilege feels hollow. Picard’s ensemble of writers and actors lean into all of this — even Number One the dog represents a marginalized community — serving up a multi-layered narrative that explores how power and privilege play out in relationships with people who are different.

I'm fucking speechless. These idiots are so far up their ass with this woke bullshit that they resurrected one of the best characters in TV history in order to degrade, insult and use him to get on their soapbox for the umpteenth time to rant about how powerful old white men need their "privilege checked." As if this would be an issue that needed to be sorted out in the utopian Federation society that Roddenberry created.

I'm not going to bother writing an essay about how angry this makes me. This video sums up my feelings on the matter.

If anybody were watching these new Trek shows, CBS wouldn't be hiding viewership numbers. The fact that Netflix told CBS to fuck off and refused a streaming deal for Picard is evidence that this franchise is in the toilet.

Of course, the "creatives" are oblivious to all of this shit because they live in an echo chamber where the only feedback that matters is from their colleagues, the most annoying SJWs on Twitter and shills in the media who'll never give honest assessments of TV Shows because they want to maintain access.

I suspect for these people the various political leanings involved aren't really of much personal significance, there just an easy way to get a positive reaction without really putting in much effort.

To go back to RLM's review I would characterise those incharge of Trek post Abrams as more like modern fratboys who try to pander to social liberalism but are ultimately classless bros who want to stare at Carol Markus in her underwear for the sake of it.
