PARAMOUNT+ ANNOUNCES SERIES ORDER
FOR “STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY”

The All-New Original Series from CBS Studios
Will Follow the Adventures of a New Class of Starfleet Cadets

March 30, 2023 – Paramount+ today announced the series order for the all-new original series STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY. The series will follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy. Produced by CBS Studios, the series will begin production in 2024.

STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY will introduce us to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.

In celebration of this news, a joint announcement has been made by co-showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau:

Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau will serve as co-showrunners and will executive produce the series alongside executive producers Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa and John Weber. The series premiere episode is written by Gaia Violo. STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY will be produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.

“We are excited to introduce ‘Star Trek’ fans to a whole new generation of Starfleet officers in training as they navigate the rigors of the Academy and the brink of adulthood in STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY,” said Domenic DiMeglio, Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Data, Paramount Streaming. “Introducing new characters and compelling storylines, this all-new original series will serve as a fantastic addition to the franchise and Paramount+, bringing new generations of viewers and long-term ‘Star Trek’ fans alike together to enjoy the next chapter in the iconic ‘Star Trek’ universe.”

STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY is the latest addition to the expanding “Star Trek” franchise on Paramount+, which includes the current hit original series STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, STAR TREK: PICARD, the animated series STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS and STAR TREK: PRODIGY, and STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS.

This has long been rumored. It's going to be geared towards a younger CW like audience.

Hmmm. Not sure about that one. Then again, I thought Prodigy would suck, and that's great. Still, CW-ish doesn't inspire confidence. They'll break the timeline every few weeks like Barry Allen, cos they're fucking idiots that refuse to learn anything.

They have been wanting/planning an Academy show for years. It will be much cheaper to produce than a standard Trek show, and open them up more to an important demographic of fans. It sounds like it's going to take place in the 25th-century Discovery era, so they will be able to reuse sets and already have the sound stages set up.

This academy show has been in the works for at least 5 years, along with section 31, which will be interesting to see how that proceeds with Michele Yeoh now being an academy award winner.

They have also announced this week that Season 2 of SNW will be coming out in June. They have already started filming season 3. Lower decks will be back in late summer/early fall for season 4, and they are also currently working on season 5. Prodigy season 2 will also come out around the same time. Discovery's final season will air Jan 24. Hopefully after Picard is over, Paramount will allow Terry Matalas to start his own trek series, which he has already pitched, and will be called Star Trek: Legacy.

yeah baby, finally someone half competent. And I cannot find much about it but he says it would be more about 25th century and whatnot so im guessing not ANoTHER prequel or something going back.
Hope his pitch makes a nice ST tent :p

He has said it will be a mix of old and new. I posted a theroy on Twitter that should be a new Enterprise G with Captain 7, with Jack Crusher, the Le forge girls, kestra Riker ect, and both Metatlas and Jerry Ryan liked the tweet.

I thought "Starfleet Academy" was originally Nicholas Meyer's brainchild. I have zero confidence in Alex Kurtzman producing a worthwhile incarnation of this show. I am willing to bet all of the main characters will behave like angsty teenagers.

No, Meyers was originally brought in to help write season 1 of DSC, and then went onto pitch and was paid to write his own mini-series, Ceti Alpha V, about Khan and his family marooned on the planet. Paramount and Meyer announced a few months ago, that is actually going into production as a full multi episode Audio drama, with full voice cast.

This is literally who the show is being made for. They want a CW type, young adult show.

"Young adult" = "angsty teenager."

It sends a bad message. An institution like "Starfleet" would have a hard time functioning under those circumstances.

It's a school. Angtys teens become adults and learn about serving in star fleet. Look at Picard when he was even a young officer. Had multiple girlfriends at the same time, gambled, got into bar room brawls, and was stabbed in the heart. That's very unstar fleet like...

I didn't care for that incarnation of Kirk at all....It was the Beverly Hills 90210 version of Kirk.

I would imagine Starfleet academy would be pretty competitive and difficult to get accepted into. Yes, young adults make mistakes, but moaning at your superior all the time like they are your parent is not realistic. NuTrek has taken that a bit too far at times.

Tapestry was a fine Q episode.

Although the other episodes were so-so at best, The Bounty is the best new Star Trek episode I have seen since the 1990's.
The Bounty was really good. Dominion was not good. It was convoluted, and there were so many missed easy shots in the action sequences (to the point of being totally unrealistic).

Or OG Tom Paris and Wesley when they killed a dude by twatting about doing spinning shit in space.

I think there is a distinction between taking chances and doing dumb shit that young adults typically do and then talking back to a superior officer on the bridge in the middle of a crisis. I have to imagine academy students are strictly trained not to do the latter. Moaning like a teenager is not the same as getting into a bar fight.

I think some of Locutus was passed on to Jack Crusher.
And that the Borg Queen is calling him behind the red door.

Shame Rene Auberjonois is dead, I'd love to see him interact with the new Changeling woman.

They should have done a Deep Space 9 continuation a long time ago. They long missed that window.
