Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

Her whisper voice is nails on a chalkboard. She's the worst part of the show, yet she's everywhere.

This show should just be called Michael in space.

This weeks episode takes place on Trill. We head to the symbiant Pools...

Im still bitter about Jadzia dying
That was all Rick Berman. The cast was on a 6 year deals, and so they all renegotiated for the 7th season. Terry Ferrell asked for more money, or to film around 20 episodes instead of 23, as she had the opportunity to star in a new series. Berman said take your old deal else your fired no negotiations, then fired her.

Wasn't it Becker, with Ted Danson? She was sacked after four seasons on that one, for no real reason, it seems.

I know that's what she ended up on, but not positive if she was offered that during DS9. It was basically a power move by Berman, to show other trek cast members on other series, not to try and test him.

Episode 3 of DSC was excellent. I love the deep dive they do into Trill society. I'm sure the gender-neutral characters, or whatever they are referred to, will rile some people up, but I thought they pretty effectively showed what a Trill symbiont goes through, and it was just beautifully shot and presented.

(I am assuming enough time has passed that the following are no longer spoilers...)

Wow, I'm surprised at all the positive comments for the first episode of the season. I just watched it, and I hated how Burnham disregarded the local authorities, stole a bunch of dilithium (super precious in this locale) and straight up murdered a lot of security guards just so she could have a chance to maybe get in touch with the Discovery. That isn't upholding the ideals of the Federation at all!

I mean I get that Burnham's hamartia is her righteousness and hubris, but this is going too far for me.

At least Book acted for what he thought was a higher good.

With all the turmoil in the world let's just remember to ask the important questions

I overall liked this last episode. I always thought the Trill were cool, so I liked the story with all of that.

Sigh...but it is sad that there is so much shit to wade through to enjoy the show. Can Michael take a break for once??????
The dinner with Saru scene was bizarre and poorly done. I thought the robot chick freaking out was her malfunctioning or something--her spaz out was so over the top.

Actually Episode 4. but I absolutely agree. This season is really really good in comparison. They are really doing good. My wife loved it (she liked Lorca but hated the second half of season 1 and tuned out of Season 2 because she was annoyed). I especially like how they are now doing character episodes (a bit like Star Trek of old). And it was classical Star Trek on the main plot.

These gender neutral characters bothered me not at all tbh. Why? Because they were just there and their 'being different' was not made a separate topic. Plus, good acting

I agree that they could just allow Burnham to. sit an episode out. But at least this ep did not focus on her. And somehow, I find her less annoying with long hair and find it believable that the year away has made her less uptight/by the rules (whatever that may mean).

I feel like they really took a lot of the things that did not work or work well with Discovery and worked hard on them for the third season: Lighting. Klingons. Lack of exploration. Pacing. Burnham being too annoying (tbh I think she would be almost fine if we only knew this season). An actually interesting story in a future not yet explored. Interesting new characters. Making care for existing ones.

This isn't Star Trek anymore. It's a monster created by people who don't really understand what Star Trek is all about.

Did you guys notice the ever increasing theme from the Calypso short trek? The new ships computer is going to become it own character as the show continues.

I haven’t watched any of season 3 yet, but my brother said the first two episodes showed some promise, then episode 3 went way downhill and episode 4 was even worse, but they’re getting praise here. I’m curious to see what they’re all about now.

I try not to google heavily make up characters,
like Katsulas and Garak as regular persons
I can never see them fully as their character anymore if I do

I had a problem this week with how easily every character conflict was resolved. Everyone just magically realized they had to apologize and move forward. That's not what happens.

Why not? That’s how it worked in the Wire. Remember when Little Kevin said to Marlo “sorry I sent Randy to talk to Lex instead of doing it myself like I was supposed to” and Marlo said “no worries, it happens” and Little Kevin went on to live a long, full life?
