Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

Sadly that is a BS new source. They search Twitter and 4chan for their stories and are almost always wrong.

I would love for it to be true, but the fact of the matter is Avery Brooks hasn't been seen in public for nearly a decade. From reports I have read, he is not in the best of health. His last acting credit is almost 20 years old at this point.
That is sad. All of the great things from the 80's and 90's continue to wither away. They should have done a follow up DS9 mini-series 10 or 15 years ago.

I read a few pages back, people saying Babylon 5 didn't age well.
I'd take the first two seasons of Babylon 5 over the first 2 seasons
of TNG or VOY.

Story arc alone makes it better imo.
Also the jumpgates and ships are okay graphics.
And the battle between G'kar and Mollari is interesting from the very beginning.

The big problem with Babylon 5's early episodes were B soap actors they brought for stand alone stories. Sinclair is wooden as hell at first too, but so was Picard. There's a great viewing suggestion list I always recommend to new viewers that skip a bunch of S1 episodes.

The show wouldn't be the same without Boxleitner (Sheridan) taking over as lead, but learning Michael O'Hare's battle with depression, and appreciating him more on a multiple viewings, I wish he got to play a bigger role.

I learned an interesting tidbit about Sinclaire's gf Catherine on S1 (Julia Nickson) while watching Rambo II the other day.

She was Rambo's HAF co-star. It always bothered me watching her on Babylon 5, wondering where she was from lol. I didn't like her acting on Babylon 5, but she was great in Rambo.

Babylon 5, DS9, Stargate SGI/Atlantis, and BSG (terrible ending though) are all above TNG IMO. The Expanse is joining that goat Sci-Fi list too.

There's a great torrent out there, 100+ gigs with remastered visuals/audio of all Babylon 5 seasons. It's the only way to way to watch it. Here's the reddit post and a sample screengrab

But if Minbari souls are born to humans,
does that mean there were more human minbari like Valen ?

Yes that girl had something, typical 80's babe.

Frakes is looking thin. Maybe getting back into on screen shape? Or is just from covid home improvements? Next 2 episodes of Discovery, he was the director.

I think Babylon 5 benefited from a more rapid improvement, season 2 is significantly better right from the start(better writting, better production values, fewer bad supporting actors) and up their with the best of the show by the end were as TNG was still a bit patchy and didn't really hit its stride until season 3.

Personally I still think most of them have some charm but you could definitely slim down your season 1 watching to include episodes that advance the plot.

Essentials(and all good episodes as well)

Midnight on the Firing Line
And the Sky Full of Stars
Signs and Portents
A Voice in the Wilderness 1 & 2
Babylon Squared
Chrysalis

Somewhat relevant to latter episodes

Soul Hunter
Born to the Purple
Mind War
The War Prayer
Eyes
Quality of Mercy

To be fair I think O'Hare was pretty good at playing a PIcard like character but alot of the time he was more in a supporting role for other character stories were as Sheridan was alot more central and dramatic. Its only come out since his death that O'Hare was suffering with serious mental illness that led to the shift, sounds like some form of schizophrenia.

Generally Babylon 5's cast seems to have been cursed, Richard Briggs, Jerry Doyle and Katasulas all died relatively young as well and Claudia Christian seems to have nearly died of alcoholism.

Yeah, Claudia Christian's quite open about her drinking. She's pulled through, sadly unlike Jerry Doyle. Add Jeff Conaway and Flounder too. Compare that to TOS, where the only ones who have died were old men.

I picture Claudia like a sassy woman irl
Katsulas and Jurasik's acting chemistry deserves more respect in tv history
Strazyncsky wrote a masterpiece.
And you have the last remaing hotness of Tracy Scoggins in season 5
Too bad the spin off was not well received

Really I don't think the show as a whole gets enough credit for helping to push serial plots on TV(outside of soaps the the like of course) as well as having some very well done individual scenes. Katasulas, Jurssik and Christian especially I felt were in the same kind of zone as Stewart, Spiner and Dorn in TNG, serious acting chops when needed but also had a sense of pulpy comedic fun.

I wish I could like this show, but the actress that plays Michael is so, so, so bad.
The emotional overacting, the crying, the longing looks...it's just so cringe. If the show didn't revolve around her, I'd try to tune her out, but she's everywhere.
And then there are no serious people on this show. Everyone is quirky, emotional, or some kind of jokester..how are you people supposed to be some of the smartest and most capable people in the galaxy? It's impossible for me to imagine these people surviving a night on the streets of a rough neighborhood in Los Angeles, let alone being lost in a massive galaxy full of cutthroat aliens with superior technology.
I find the outline of most of the stories interesting, but the characters, with the exception of Saru and this new guy, Booker, everyone else is pretty terrible.

So much of it has been poorly done.

Episode 3 was also, again, surprisingly enjoyable. Best season so far. Story is interesting enough, and it feels like Star Trek. More than Picard. More than the first two seasons.

Season 4 offically started filming today in Toronto. Doug Jones posted he had to get into Saru mode

Her whisper voice is nails on a chalkboard. She's the worst part of the show, yet she's everywhere.

This show should just be called Michael in space.
