That scene was deleted, I am amazed IT is part of the movie they show on TV. Does that make it Canon?
Sorry it wasn't on the TV version. Just some random behind the scene trivia i'm blabbing about. Wil wrote about it in his biography, which is pretty good(he's actually a pretty good writer) He talked about how he hadn't been getting regualr work in quite some time, was was very depressed, but was so excited to be able to come back and film with the old crew. He also talked about hanging around the paramount lot, until late that night. When he was walking to his car, Patrick saw him and pulled over to talk to him. Wil apologized to him for being a dumb kid back on TNG, and thanked him for always being kind to him. Patrick gave him a long pep talk, and told Wil how everyone always loved him, and thought of him a younger sibling. He also told him to stick with acting because he was much more than just a child star. A few months later Wil was very excited to take his wife to the Hollywood premiere. 2 days before the premiere, Rick Berman called him to let him know, his part had been cut from the film, and just wanted to let him so, so his family wouldn't wonder where he was in the movie.

Patrick has always looked like he was in his 60's. He has been frozen there for a long time.
Yeah it will help him in Old man Picard. He should be approaching 90 in canon, but Humans usually live until the 130s in the 24th century.

I don't understand why the studio's would need our cash to remaster DS9 in HD.
I mean, it would sell very good and they would make their money back.

Its a very expensive process to do it right. It cost between 20-30 Million I believe to do the TNG remaster. That said, the TNG remaster set the Gold standard of how to restore a series. The 35mm film negatives were scanned, then every special effect and scene was recreated in HD. Its a very time consuming process, and it would be even more expensive and time consuming for DS9, due to the high use of CGI. Most of the assets would have to be recreated from scratch. TNG mainly used film models for space scene, but DS9 was mainly CGI, and there's lots of space battles.

The biggest issue was the TNG blu rays did not sell nearly as well as CBS was hoping. They tried to sell each season for $100 initially, which is just too much in this day and era. While sets are worth that kind of money, DVD/Blu Ray sales are not nearly what they once were, and Streaming services had really taken over by the time the set started coming out. TNG is the most popular trek series. It sells the most media, is one of the most popular streaming series, and commands the highest price on syndication market. DS9 and VOY both don't have nearly the earning power that TNG does. Seeing these fan projects raise big money for new DS9 content, is something CBS is taking notice of. Are beat chance of DS9 and VOY in HD, is if CBS decides it wants to offer it for its streaming service, or to command higher streaming and syndication rates. They can't depend on the physical media sales any more.

I understand now.

So, how much are you all willing to chip in to make DS9 HD ?

If you would invite sillicon valley in the crowdfunding for this, the goal would be reached in no time.

Well, these will find their way to the known 'platforms', so I will watch there.

In the past week I have happened to see parts of TNG premiere, encounter at far point; and a few days later VOY, Caretaker.

This lead me to thinking which series do you think had the best premiere episode, and which had the best finale. Here's mine,

Best premiere: Enterprise, Broken Bow. This may come as a surprise to many, but this is my favorite premiere. The story was well crafted, and beautifully shot. Brought the crew and ship together in a unique way. It cost a reported 15 million to shoot, but it shows. The sets were amazing, and the cgi was good for early 2000s. It got Enterprise of to a great start, and got fantastic ratings, sadly the rest of season 1, didn't meet its same standard of quality

Best finale, TNG, All good things. This is an easy choice. This should have been the first TNG film. Kinda interesting that Brannon Braga and Ronald D Moore, wrote both all good things, and Generations. They spent nearly a year writing Generations, yet wrote All good things, last minute in a week. I truly think all good things is the best TV finale I have ever seen period.

What's your favorites?

I like those choices. IMO there is a case to be made for Where No Man Has Gone Before, simply because it's so iconic. But due to The Cage being the original pilot and The Man Trap airing first, it probably should not rank at the top.

Caretaker was probably the best pilot from the basic story outline, but was just poorly executed. The Maquis/Federation storyline and the fact they were plunged into uncharted space were actually brilliant cornerstones.

I hate the DS9 pilot.

The boss meeting with his writers room. This is a pretty stacked roster

Kirsten Beyer may have the most important job in Star Trek.

Oh yeah, she definitely has the most important creative job in Trek right now. I'll be curious to see if she gets a co-creator credit for the Picard series, seeing how, multiple people have said it was her premises. I could see Akiva Goldman trying to snake her credit.

Its pretty impressive that Beyer in about 15 years, has gone from being a star trek fan fiction writer, to getting to relaunch and take the reigns of Voyager. She is then put in charge of all canon, and developing all media for Star Trek. She then becomes the first Star Trek Lit writer, to join a series as a writer. She now has created the Picard series and will be a writer and executive producer on that. Kurtzman and others must really believe in her, because Discovery is her only credit.

All of her books I've read have been outstanding, and I do trust her with Star Trek. Pretty cool to see a fan in a position of power in the franchise.

Pretty crazy amount of retweets for a Star Trek tweet. Wow.

They better not fuck this up.
I'll be curious who the showrunner is on this show. If I had to guess, it will be James Duff. He's an experienced showrunner, and has written for enterprise in the past.

Remember the awesome virtual reality 3D Tour fans have made of the Enterprise-D?

CBS has crushed that:

I wonder if its because they have the Enterprise D coming as a addon for there bridge commander ps4 game. Things like this they really should work with the fans. They weren't trying to sell it or make money. They should work with them, and make it an actual release. I would buy a proper VR set up, if this came out in VR.
