The Simpsons Was Always Overrated as Hell.

The Simpsons and Futurama > any of douchey Seth Mcfarlane's cartoons. Family Guy tries way too hard to be edgy.

You are right that Family Guy ripped off a show, but it wasn't the Simpsons.

Family Guy ripped off a little unkown gem called The Critic. The whole pattern of cutting away to short and sometimes completely unrelated scenes and was used heavily in The Critic.

Funny enough, I was too young to realize this but I rewatched the series on Youtube a couple years back and it completely dawned on me that Family Guy took that pattern and ran with it.

I think ripped off is too harsh a word though and Family Guy amped up the college humor in its own way.

Well actually even the Simpson's did the whole cut away reference thing but eventually steered away from it. I forget which season the mention it but they mention it in one of the commentaries on the DVD.

I meant the just ripped off the general dynamic of the family.

Ark is the man but I disagree.

To me, Prime Simpsons was probably the best animated show p4p.

And it’s definitely a superior show narratively and quality of writing wise than Family Guy ever was or will be. Family Guy came back at a time when it was poised to appeal to the right generation though. I view it as a YouTube show. You can look up the cutaway gags online and get a good laugh out of them but who knows or cares which episodes they came from.

The Simpsons actually had good plot and character interaction. The gags were funny and did not overrely on crudeness.

The problem was that it got tired. 12 years of high quality programming and they exhausted a lot of possibilities and plot lines. It got to the point where a good episode of the Simpsons relative to a post Prime season would have barely been middle of the road in one of the first ten seasons.

Off topic, but did anyone enjoy Brickleberry? I read a thread about the show on reddit and 9/10 posters said it was the worst show ever, complete garbage, blah blah.

I personally found it hilarious and much more lol than Family Guy.
Definitely an overabundance of gay, gender, and race jokes but I don't know, they get me every time.

The Family Guy didn't change culture, or television. The Simpsons did. It's why Family Guy is around.

I love words, but I don't need to use more than that. Case closed.

This and only this needs to be said. So someone till this youngster its time for his bed time he just got today's lesson.

any love for

latest

Peak Simpsons = GOAT Peak
South Park = GOAT show at combining length with per-episode quality
King of the Hill = Most underrated
Family Guy = No.

There you go. Hope that helps.

That the show with the tosh.0 dude? i enjoyed it, has it humor.
As far as Simpsons go, stopped watch 10 years ago. Used to be a hard core fan in the 90s. In fact ib remember when family guy first came on the scene, i thought it was copycat garbage. funny how the last 10 years have flipped the switch on me; as ridiculous as the premise may be, family guy actually have better character development and storyline, imo. Simpsons just running on fumes and its legacy at this point...

Not a good TV show. At all. It was popular in it's prime because there were no other crude cartoon comedies out there. But can The Simpsons even be considered crude? It really isn't. Shows like Family Guy and American Dad are leaps and bounds better than The Simpsons. There was simply no comedies similar to compete with The Simpsons at that time.

When Family Guy gained steam and took over, it was pretty clear what show was better. American Dad isn't too far behind it. The Simpsons isn't even on anyways radar anymore. Does it even air? Who cares.

I'm ready to get flamed by the old fawks who refuse to believe The Simpsons isn't funny. Come at me.

It's dated. It was funny as hell when it came out. It's still funny to some extent, but the standards are just different today. The Simpsons was a building block of other similar shows that came after it.

Best simple response so far lol. This is my line of thinking and most likely due to my age.

unpossible, Simpsons is not overrated you can dislike it or prefer other series to the Simpsons but it i s not overrated considering its effect. Simpsons paved the way for Seth McFarlane.

I have to laugh at dated. Did you see the two Simpsons clips I posted?
They are more relevant today than anything Family Guy has ever done. Simpsons are so relevant they predicted Trump becoming president and fucking up the economy in 2000.

lmao family guy?

seths shows are low brow plagiarizing garbage. Not to be a dick here but I've noticed FG fanbase tends to be high on the aspergers scale and i can see why.

I don't think you can compare Family Guy with the early Simpsons. Family Guy went full crude right off and The Simpsons was basically a sitcom that had the benefit of being animated.

I will say that it's GOAT status is a tad overrated. I think it's been equaled, if not surpassed by a few shows. South Park has only barely deteriorated after like what? 20 seasons? It's still funny as hell, and it's only truly bad seasons, are when it first started out. Rick And Morty is as good as anything The Simpsons did. Archer is up there as well.

Simpsons get some OG bonus points obviously, but I do believe if all these shows came out around the same time, The Simpsons wouldn't be the pick of the litter, even during it's peak years.

I was referring to older seasons of The Simpsons. I haven't watched the Simpsons in probably close to 10 years.

Rick and Morty and Aqua Teen Hunger Force pushed different boundaries. I prefer those shows. I even liked later seasons of Beavis & Butthead better than The Simpsons.
