The Simpsons Was Always Overrated as Hell.

Season's 3 to 6 were Wire-like in the quality of the writing. It took a sledgehammer to so many cultural touchstones (religion, capitalism, politics, policing, authority) and made you laugh at the same time.

It should have finished years ago, but it's best has been streets ahead of any other animated show.

I think those behind it did kind of see the problems that were emerging around the turn of the millennium and I think Futurama was an effort to not just freshen things up but work with them, the setting of that show ment it could feature a lot more random absurdity and still keep more pathos.

Prime Simpsons Season 3 to 8 or 9 had impeccable comedic timing, great voice actors all over the place and frequently the stories had heart, something every show that rode on the coattails of The Simpsons never had. South Park at least carved its own path but Family Guy, American Dad? You sound like the type who'd say Pryor and Carlin are "just two old dead dudes. Check out this Youtube prank video, bro."

Yes!

The music videos really made that show too.

The reboot was great for that one season a few years ago too, I liked how they made fun of the shows they had on MTV at the time.

Continuing with the clips that Family Guy could never come close to:

I'll give Family Guy a bit of praise for it's early seasons. They were fresh, funny, and well written. It's hard to appreciate just how impossible it seemed to breakthrough at the time with a prime time cartoon series, in the age of The Simpsons and South Park. Family Guy's initial cancellation is evidence of this. If it wasn't for people discovering it on DVD, it dies a quick death.

Does it suck now? Yes. Has it sucked for every season past season 4? Yes. However, it's accomplishment to become a pop culture phenomenon, after cancellation, while standing in the shadow of giants, is impressive.

Lol post 2000 Simpsons is still better than prime family guy, thats just how bad Family Guy is. Every time I try to watch that show I just can't it's fucking horrible. Not to mention all of MacFarlane's shows are literally the same premise. Family Guy, American Dad, the Cleveland show. It's like Pokemon Red and Blue, exact same shit except instead of a few different pokemon is a few different people.

Only show that couldve held a candle to prime Simpsons was King of the Hill. That show was fucking hilarious and only gets better with time, not to mention the characters were really thought out, they all stood out and had their own quirks, plus Peggy was the most hate able character ever lol. Prime King of the Hill may even be funnier than Simpsons, depending on your humor. KOTH gave us stuff like narrow urethra and diminished gluteal syndrome. Cotton Hill is a GOAT character of animated comedy, name me a more funny character in Family Guy I'll fucking wait.

As far as hate goes:

Lisa Simpson > Peggy Hill

I never dreaded a Peggy Hill episode on KOTH, like I did with Lisa episodes. Even during the prime years of The Simpsons, Lisa based episodes were always a chore to watch.

In general though, yeah, KOTH doesn't get the love it deserves. It was a bit too dry, and "normal" to appreciate when I was younger, compared to the more cartoon zany world of The Simpsons. I didn't quite "get it" when I was younger. I think that's the case for a lot of folks who didn't really appreciate it during it's initial run, and why it has the "bland" reputation it does. Watching it now, it's brilliant.

I liked the way KOTH made you want to hate Peggy, with the way she thought she thought she was just better than everyone around her. The episode where she thinks Mr Vaia Condios wants to sleep with her is hilarious. I agree too, I started watching KOTH again last year and it makes me laugh way more than when I was a kid. Also agreed about Lisa episodes, they seemed kind of hit and miss. Although one of my favs from when I was a kid was when they take in the big white guy who says he's Michael Jackson. Lmao

I can still enjoy Simpsons from time to time.

LOL! Peggy is such a retard it’s hilarious. I love the one where she’s writing advice articles the local paper and she recommends mixing ammonia and bleach together and Hank’s just like “oh my god, she could kill hundreds of people!”

Lol I forgot about this one. The one where she's smuggling cocaine into the prison in the sand clock was pretty fucking hilarious too.

Not sure I’ve seen that one. The Hill family sure has a lot of run ins with drugs and crime. Two of my favourites are when Hank is fishing using crack, and of course the one where he becomes a pimp.

Teaching kids just WTF aurora borealis was. Comedy + education

Yeah, Simpsons sux. I was a kid when the show was in its prime, never understood how anyone could like it. It's terrible and weird.

Then again, Family Guy and American Dad also suck. So does South Park. Beavis and Butthead & King Of The Hill > Everything else.

I remember being a kid and almost die laughing when homer and Bart get lost in the woods and sling shot the rabbit across the forest.

In fact I still laugh pretty hard when I watch that.
