The reason Miocic looked slow..

But he wanted to retire or drop the belt and make a superfight with Pereira. What seems to be the problem?

More power to him. Does it look like any of us are stopping him? Go talk to Dana White

but what's the explanation of Jones looking slow? wasn't he a lot lighter in this fight? he moved like an old man himself.

Right? They both looked slow. There was one exchange where Jones turned his back and ran away and I couldn't help but laugh at how slow the whole movement was. Stipe was chasing him, also slow, winging those wide lumbering shots. The whole thing was comical.

Nothing about him looked focus. The dude was so low energy leading up to the fight. Then he gladly retired without a fuss.

Stipe looks low energy leading up to every fight. That's his demeanor.

Can you point to a fight where Stipe looked amped up? Because I'd be interested in seeing that.

Stipe has never looked fast, even when he was young. His game didn't rely on speed.

I just watched a highlight reel of Aleksander Emelianenko, and THAT dude was fast. Especially for a HW.

Stipe just went from medium to painfully slow.

True. Sometimes it's hard to spot the decline when you're winning.

Stipe actually started declining during the Cormier trilogy, but since he won the last 2 nobody noticed. But DC was declining too.

I think people are overlooking Jones decline because he dominated his last 2 opponents, but perhaps the real reason why he moved to HW is because he can't keep up with the speed of the LHW's anymore.

He couldn't finish his last 3 LHW opponents and arguably lost to one of them and got a split decision over another. He was struggling.

lmao @ the mental gymnastics. Stipe looked like a 45 year old full time firefighter in a pro mma fight is supposed to look. Now it’s because he got beaten up in the first round. Any fighter will look bad at that age.

When a fighter gets beaten up badly and instantly retires from the sport without hesitation, it means that this fighter had retirement in his mind for a while. You can’t win fights like that. You’re just showing up to cash a check.

Not sure why people worry about Jones. We just saw Jake Paul beat Tyson. He destroyed him. Tyson only landed 12 punches. Based on this thread age doesn't matter, so Jake Paul is clearly the GOAT.

lol. stipe was not retired during the jones fight

What would you call it? French leave?

3-27-21 >> 11-16-2024

That is 1,330 days without a fight.

3 years, 7 moths, 20 days. Fun fact, its 4 years 3 months since he won a fight.

Yes he was retired. He then resumed retirement "thank God" in his own words, in cage. Coming out of retirement after entering your mid 40's is moronic because you'll look like Stipe did.

Jon himself looks slow and diminished. Its why we saw him going to pick-em war decisions with middling light heavyweights before his own leave of absence. He hand picked a retired fighter who had no business back in the cage, because that is where his capabilities are at.

Fight exhibition talent get exhibition results.

He retired after getting knocked by by Ngannou and losing the belt.

Active fighters don't sit out for 3+ years in their late 30s and early 40s.

No, he's an old ass man who hasn't fought in years and we all knew it would look like this.

Peddle your bs somewhere else. That event was a farce.

Only on Sherdog is it somehow considered a plus to be in your 40s in MMA.
It's never been a plus, it's just the division is trash enough that 40 year olds can still compete. Some of them anyway. DC was definitely not in his prime for the Stipe trilogy.

mostly true
but remember when stipe was the man?

This is true. His best win was a DC who publicly stated he won't fight in his 40s ... stuck around for a red panties night with Brock Lesnar ... that feel thru and then was convinced to face Stipe again at a self imposed retirement age.

That win and the trilogy win are Stipes best wins.

If Stipe fans don't want to count his loss to Jones, they shouldn't count his wins against Old man and one foot into retirement DC then either.
